Or possibly run some descaler through, does the OP say what their water is like, how it’s treated?

DavecUK I encountered scale a couple of weeks back (although I thought my water was ok, which was not). Descaled it. But I could imagine it still has some left over scale or particles.

At the moment it seems fine after some flushing but we will have to see.

I think the way you described descaling earlier and in the manual should suffice?

So I’ve turned on the machine both in the pump on and pump off setup, and it works fine without tripping the rcd. The pressure valve was indeed the culprit of the short.

It would be!!

If the body of the stat was full of gunky water it provides a path from the mains line direct to earth via the water connector. You had already said no water was in the back of the iec socket

Out of interest had i said correctly which was pump running (black + white) and pump not running, as i had an argument with myself about it.

Yes, you were correct: black - white = pump not running, black - red = pump running

I’ll probably open the stat body to stick my nose inside, now that I know it’s toasted

Does anyone (Dave?) know if ACS is shut for the Italian “ferragosto” summer holiday, and if they are, until when?

I’ve emailed them a week ago to ask for a quote for a replacement pressure stat shipped to an Italian address but haven’t hear back from them yet.

I will be in Italy the first week of September and would like to get one before I leave, it will be much easier and cheaper than getting one sent to Oz.

You may want to try Maria directly. They may slow down a bit in August, but in the past, ACS has not closed down for any extensive holiday.

I’ve had very prompt email communications with ACS over the past week.

I just received a replacement pressure transducer. Anyone have a suggestion on best/easiest way to accomplish this swap?

It’s supposed to be only hand tight, but I haven’t been able to get an adequate grip from above. Maria suggested going from the bottom access panel but that is an even a more difficult reach. I was thinking I could get a miniature strap wrench in from the top or perhaps removing the side electronics panel to have better access. It also looks like the transducer screws into a brass thread adapter.

MacPhisto You need to find a small, but strong child to undo it…or ask your wife to have a go. It is not on very tight at all. If you have some grip mat, cut a strip and use that for extra grip.

That’s essentially what I did and eventually it rotated. Very easy once started and the replacement went in very easily.

I’ve got guesses as to the failure, but here’s the bottom of the old pressure transducer:

We’ll find out the results of the swap when I get everything back together this evening.

Well, new pressure transducer didnt eliminate the leak, but I suspect that’s because I cant tighten it quite enough by hand (or with a strip of silicone mat). With use of an inspection mirror, I can clearly see the drips coming from the bottom of the transducer at high pressure.

I dont want to damage any parts but am open for suggestions. PTFE tape? Paste dope? Use of strap wrench? I’m fresh out of tiny fingered yet strong children in my house. My dogs are worthless for this, and every other task.

The o-ring is flexible and should take care of this. I feel like a ¼ - ½ turn more would do it, but I’ve applied as much force as I can with my hand and I’m afraid any more force will damage something. It’s not misthreaded.

Maybe there is something wrong with the thread adapter it screws into? I took a picture of that and didnt see anything obvious.

Personally i wouldn’t use ptfe tape on the plastic thread??

You can try PTFE, wrap until it’s tightish going all the way in.

A very legitimate question since it is so hard to visualize under the transducer while the machine is in action. I plan on spending a lot more time today trying to precisely see and photo/video the leak before I do anything more aggressive and run the risk of damaging other structures.

One question I have, though, is the T which the transducer attaches supposed to be easily moved? The T rotates pretty easily with any pressure. I dont see that the leak is coming from where the T attaches to the return line, but it’s still weird to have it mobile.
