LMSC It will be fine., but you must put a blank cartridge in…or it won’t direct the water flow properly. Look at the cartridge and inside the slot and you will see what I mean.

DavecUK We need a blank cartridge in. Otherwise, the water will leak.

LMSC I would think that’s a high probability, Or you could wait for your existing cartridge to wear out…it must wear out eventually I suppose.

DavecUK I have been using it since March 22. The alkalinity was around 50 mg/l at that time. Now it’s about 29 mg/l. The Pure RO alkalinity from RO is about 15 mg/l.

The group, at default PID values with the B at 40 at the SP of 91.5C, gets stuck at 90.6-90.8 for anywhere between 2 and 5 mins at least. It will then drop to low 89s before raising to 0.5C more than the SP.

If I set the B at 5 or 10, it effectively becomes an on/off switch. The swing is still 1 degree on either side. It does come up quickly from the 90 handle. The pattern is the same with a B of 20. This is the current value now.

All these after the machine has been running for at least 30 mins.

While I seldom pay attention to this, it can be a long wait as happened this afternoon .

This afternoon, I ground the beans, locked the PF pull to a shot at 2:48 pm. The milk went cold and I ended up changing the B value to 20 to pull a shot at 3:03 pm.

This has been the case since new. I am effectively using it as an on/off switch these days. I haven’t got around to experimenting as I did for the brew boiler.

My brew boiler is fine at a modified values of 0.7,0,20,160!

Has anyone observed this? What’s been the group settings for you guys please? Thx

I had something similar happen about a week ago. I turned on the machine remotely. Waited 15 minutes. When I went to the kitchen everything was heated except my group. I came back a few minutes later and the group temp did not increase. I know the group heats up last, but it seemed to be stuck at some value (I cannot remember which). I ended up turning off the machine, giving it 20 minutes and trying again. It heated up just fine and I have not had any problem since.

What temperature is your group set at? It has never been able to fully get up to target temperature?

My PID settings are:

Group: Kp=2.0, Ki=0.04, Kd=5.0, B=40

Brew: Kp=1.0, Ki=0.0, Kd=5.0, B=120

Steam: Kp=1.0, Ki=0.04, Kd=5.0, B=30

Could it not just be ambient temp. It’s -8 outside and our kitchen is a toasty 16oC

Cuprajake Thanks! May be it’s the ambient. I have had a fair share of temperature oscillations with the brew boiler, until I found stability with those settings, which I posted yesterday.

I never got around playing with the group’s settings except B as the group takes longer to warm up. The default B does not suit my machine.

Once the group is hot and reaches the SP, it will always get stuck at about a degree lower from the set point and won’t go up for a long time. Yesterday was one example.

So, I have been using the PID more like an on/off switch at B value of 5. Any thing between 10 and 20 would prevent the temp from getting stuck but will give me 1C oscillation. It is a compromise!

I might get around tweaking the P and D slightly to see where it takes me. 😊

Hi all, I wanted to ask a question about this observation. My pre-infusion pressure is set at the out of the box 2bar. I notice that when I start the shot and the pump engages the pressure goes up to nearly but just shy of 2bar but then it sits and runs the pump for a fraction of a second every 1-2 seconds which barely moves the pressure. it does this 6-7 times and then it will finally do a bigger adjustment and go quiet. I’ve noticed in many of the other users videos the pre-infusion pump cycles maybe 2-3 times max to get to 2 bar. Its not an issue in my mind other than its a little annoying and I wonder if all the extra cycles will impact my pump eventually.

Is this something I should at all be concerned about and/or is there some adjustment I should make?

Thatnks DavecUK for the quick response on that. The machine has been great so far. I’m admittedly being really critical to bring up the number of pump cycles. 😀

Hi all,

I am the proud owner a Evo Leva for a couple of months now. But I have a very small potential problem, not sure. The group is leaking very slowly, like one drip every 30 sec. But it stops after about 20 minutes. Should I be worried or it’s just condensation? Thanks

CristianH the group has a stainless steel liner and that liner contains a jacket of water, very thin jacket water. If the groups turned on from cold, then it may be a little until it warmed up as the water in that jacket expands (10 to 15m). Or if you’ve just pulled the shot, then you might get dripping for a little while, as that jacket of water expands slightly. It’s absolutely no problem at all.

there a wet group they all do this warming up, no issuses
