boshk The tech for the PID heated group and twin boilers has been around for a very long time now (7 years +). The issue was persuading ACS to make a single group version. Slimming down the Vostok case simply wasn’t possible and Paolo get himself into a bit of a rut with it, trying out different boiler designs, one of which would have lost the independently heated group. In addition a water tank was proving problematic.
I roughed out a design using the Vesuvius body, Minima Boilers (which are big boilers and in stock), plus a few other things and couldn’t see why it wouldn’t all fit in the Vesuvius case which was immensely strong all stainless lattice type construction. The advantage was the water tank and inlet system, and mains entry distribution were already done and only the front panel would need Modification (extra display cut out and strengthening). I got a proof of concept from scrap parts (completely built from scrap parts) and it all worked great.
The design was later refined by compartmentalising the various areas, wet, hot, and electric bays into separate compartments and electronics all accessible by removing a side panel.
The Evo undergoes continuous improvement and there are changes all the time, one of the latest that may be in them under current construction or soon will be boiler drain valves. There’s no point waiting for enhancements, because there will only be something else along a few months later.
Some of the options coming are:
- Rotary Pump
- Preinfusion timer and shot timer, as on the Vostok one group (separate display)
- Timed lever auto release
- Pressure target auto release
- Manual release
- Front panel selection of prinfusion pressure (possibly up to 6 bar) on the display. Using electronic pressure transducers
Some will be retrofittable, some won’t. it’s probably one of the best levers on the planet technically and Paolo was the inventor of the Vostok dual boiler technology. It’s price is also cheaper than the old fashioned and cheaper to build Londinium LR24…whilst be way more advanced and with a much better lever group. 1 year longer warranty as well and not drop shipped, ACS actually build their own machine and have their own factory.
