I’m not sure why you think this makes a difference - but perhaps I haven’t understood what you mean.
The discharge from the ‘extra’ water ends up in the drip tray, just as it would if instead of having the ‘second cup’ you simply remove the first one, and let the ‘rubbish’ (to use the Neapolitan term, “'a munnezza”) flow out of the group through the filter. Yes, it may save a few seconds - and if the machine is choked a few minutes - but it makes no difference as far as keeping things tidy.
