Hi all. I was directed to this thread from another forum. Such great information. I was experiencing the same idle-based pressure spikes as others described, so I went ahead and pulled the OPV apart to clean and lube as recommended in this thread. Happy to report, pressure was very consistent and without spikes with a blind basket in my first test. Will report back if there changes, but so far so good. I just used some silicone grease, but will order some molykote for a longer term fix.
My OPV was pretty crusty looking. I’ll try to post some pics. I’ll also note, for others considering the same cleaning procedure - there was ring of buildup inside the OPV housing as well (the larger cylinder that you don’t take off). I could feel it with my finger. So I used an Allen wrench (since it has an L-shape) to get in there and remove it. I would definitely recommend checking that on yours as well.
I’m still planning to get in contact with Clive, as I’d like to get a replacement OPV sent as a backup.
Here are some pics before the cleaning and lube.
