Rob666 Bought some of the Aldi ones yesterday. OK but I preferred Tesco’s ordinary ones. Not keen on their luxury ones.
hornbyben I’m a big fan of the Heston Spiced Mince Pies with a twist of lemon from Waitrose. Not traditional but very tasty
Dusk I had one of the Heston ones last year which I wasn’t too impressed with. I can’t remember the exact type but it was hockey puck shaped which should have warned me off.
Pompeyexile Here at Pompeyexile Towers we like the Aldi Special mince pies. Have tried them against Sainsbury’s, Tescos and Morrisons and they beat them all hands down. However…. here up north we also have a bakery chain called Thomas The Bakers and at Christmas they do a Tipsy Imp which is a pastry base filled with relly boozy mincemeat and topped with a dollop of creamy fondanty stuff covered in icing… chuffin lovely!
dfk41 Pompeyexile I found them online and became excited when I saw online shop! Alas it was pretty empty with nothing being available online, and no mention of the Tipsy Imp!
Pompeyexile DavecUK There be lots of sugar in them thar pies….. Nothing wrong with that and it doesn’t seem to be doing me any harm…Whoop…Whoop!…Brrrup!…Wibble…Ptang!
Dusk I can’t be messing with icing on top, makes the whole thing too sweet for me. I know because M&S were selling them cheaply so I had to eat the whole pack to test them out.
DavecUK Pompeyexile could be turning into Jack Douglas..I suppose you will just carry on with the sugar.
Dusk I purchased some Waitrose brown butter and cognac mince pies yesterday, I tested one immediately last night and had to double check with another one this morning. They’re good but not mind blowing, perhaps my expectations were too high.
Elcarajillo Not from any supermarket, Mrs El c’s homemade mincemeat and mince pies. Mrs El c makes exceedingly good mince pies. Lots of fruit, apple, flaked almonds and lots of brandy
