I like to try mince pies from most supermarkets each year but I keep going back to Waitrose all butter. I think less is more when it comes to mince pies so I avoid anything non standard.

@"Dusk"#p32695 I do the same thing, but of course, the recipes do vary from year to you year. Unluckily for me, there are only 2 branches of Waitrose in our area. One slap bang in the middle of Newcastle and the other I could trek to. The only problem being I would pass several branches of Aldi to get to it!

In answer to the question, Like Dusk, Waitrose All Butter are historically my favourite (other than home-brew, of course)), but currently half-way through packet 1 of the 2022 Season, which are Sainsbury All Butter, with Brandy. They’re a bit ‘marmite’ though …. I like them, the wife doesn’t. Shame. :D

All my life I have been disappointed with Christmas mince pies.
I am a serious pie lover as my girth proves but seeing plates full of those little things and discovering that they were cold and full of FRUIT has been devastating.

Fortnum and masons almond ones are nice, so is the price though. We bought some for a relative who reckoned that they were the best they had ever eaten.

Bought some of the Aldi ones yesterday. OK but I preferred Tesco’s ordinary ones. Not keen on their luxury ones.

I’m a big fan of the Heston Spiced Mince Pies with a twist of lemon from Waitrose. Not traditional but very tasty

I had one of the Heston ones last year which I wasn’t too impressed with. I can’t remember the exact type but it was hockey puck shaped which should have warned me off.

Here at Pompeyexile Towers we like the Aldi Special mince pies. Have tried them against Sainsbury’s, Tescos and Morrisons and they beat them all hands down. However…. here up north we also have a bakery chain called Thomas The Bakers and at Christmas they do a Tipsy Imp which is a pastry base filled with relly boozy mincemeat and topped with a dollop of creamy fondanty stuff covered in icing… chuffin lovely!

I can’t be messing with icing on top, makes the whole thing too sweet for me. I know because M&S were selling them cheaply so I had to eat the whole pack to test them out.

I purchased some Waitrose brown butter and cognac mince pies yesterday, I tested one immediately last night and had to double check with another one this morning. They’re good but not mind blowing, perhaps my expectations were too high.
