I’ve got myself right in a conundrum with this thing. I was all set to try and pick up a second-hand Zero, then this Timemore came out and at the early bird price it seemed (seems?) like giving the 64s a go might be worth it, as selling it on may well not lose too much value even if I don’t find it an improvement. Or I could upgrade my ‘pledge’ to 78s, same kinda thinking but better(?).
While all this goes on I’ve been messing with my current quite-old Compak K3 54mm flat burr grinder and quite enjoying the results, surprising myself with how low retention it is already now I’m using it in single-dose style. The only thing I’d criticise really is it’s right at the zero end of the grind scale so doesn’t feel like I’ve much room to dial things in. Oh and it’s a faff to adjust anyway which puts me off making filter, so I only have espresso. Thats not so bad, I like espresso and espresso-based drinks but sometimes I drink a filter elsewhere and remember what I’m missing.
Is there anywhere good in London where you can test a few grinders? Have things likely moved on from my Compak in taste and convenience? Its kind of annoying that I’d have to spend quite a lot of money to find out (as far as I know) or just go on with this nagging at me every so often :)
Watching all these bloody YouTube videos has not particularly helped me work it out at all, I must say. They’ve possibly tipped me towards just sticking to what I’ve got if anything. Gosh (can I say gosh?) that’s a sensitive swear filter! “Bloomin’” YouTube vids then!
