I too would rather spend a little more on something I’ll keep. I’m also pretty sure the Niche after the possible VAT on the Timemore isn’t much more (if at all) in the UK.

Niche zero was rated as 60% and the 078S was able to exploit the full potential of the coffee. I’m more interested in how the 078S compares to the Niche Duo. I think he said he prefers flat burrs which could explain why he didn’t prefer Niche zero.

May be irrelevant but the 064 just sounds very weedy. It sounds like it’s struggling, may well be rubbish and it makes little or no difference to how it grinds but it just sounds a bit…meh
BrewLiam apparently the price you see will be the final price, no import duty etc. even if there was no more than the niche zero is only about £70 more in the UK

Most likely because if he says he likes it, he won’t get as many viewers. One of the situations where he made his mind a while back and it’s unlikely he’ll change it now.
Most (maybe all?) of us associate Lance with someone who doesn’t like the Niche, at least not the taste it produces for the coffee he drinks for his own palate - which is no doubt a subjective thing anyway.
I’d be interested to hear what he says about the Duo. I think I already know, bit nonetheless, we shall see when he gets to it.

My bug bear is you can’t compare a conical to flats. It’s not a fair fight. That and he really dislikes the zero. A better option would of been a df64 which is similar.

Why not? They both grind coffee for the same method (espresso, as an example). Just because one use flat burrs and the other conicals doesn’t mean it can’t be compared. Can’t you compare a diesel car with a petrol car? Yes you can. In fact, I have compared, and found out that, for me, based on a very unscientific method and brief time I can’t tell the difference. 🤷♂️ (NIche Zero vs Niche Duo).

No, I’m fine with the laid back style. This was the one that tuned me out.
He’s done some helpful stuff for sure. But his methods for arriving at conclusions and therefore recommendations doesn’t have enough robustness for me to have confidence in his findings.
But hey, if people love his stuff, more power to them.
I was after the 078 for pourover duty to pair with my Zero but as It wasn’t available in the UK on Kickstarter I backed the 078s with a view to fitting some turbo burrs later on.
With the only real info available out in the wild being early reviews, it seems that swapping the burrs out could be a right faff & was a hairs breath from cancelling, however Timemore have announced that you can change your 078S pledge to a 078 in the survey that will be sent out at the end of the campaign

MediumRoastSteam doesn’t work like that though imo.
Every other grinder he compares them to are flats, that’s all I’m pointing out, the profiles of conical and flats are different and they do taste different to me, I find the zero quite dull, but I wouldn’t use it as a compare to my major as they are totally different.

I think one of my main concerns may have been answer by Timemore. Having not seen any actual 078s grinders, the reviews suggested the espresso burrs in the 078 had very little espresso range - maybe 0-2 or 3.
Reading this is seems it may be different on the actual 078s grinder. Think I’m going to keep my pledge for it and hope it’s a good bet for the price.

Understood. I was going for what’s on the tin: yes you can compare the Zero with a blade grinder, but they are different categories. I can also compare the Zero with an HG-1, or Kinu M-68, or a Feldgrind 38mm conical. Different categories and prices.
Likewise I can compare a Monolith conical and a Monolith flat. They will presumably produce different profiles in the cup. But they both grind coffee for a brew method.
I do find sometimes people compare a Monolith Conical with a Niche Zero (example). They can be compared for sure, but it’s unlikely they will appeal to the same audiences due to their price differences.
BrewLiam this is very interesting because I would say it is probably the main thing putting me off about the 078s.

All this serves to reinforce (in my mind) the super hard pushing and marketing this is getting when people (including influencers) either don’t have the facts, and in some cases might be being deliberately deceptive. Exactly the same thing seems to be going on with the meticulous. It seems to be a developing trend with coffee products!?
I like to feel I’m not a stupid person and when I have unanswered questions that keep nagging at me, I can’t get it out of my head that there is more going on.
