John Gordon just sent out an email saying that despite testing there is still an unacceptedly high failure rate with the new cones for less than medium roasts. I think this speaks to DaveC’s point that quality grinders are built around the burr set and swapping them in and out can cause issues.
I wonder if the workhorses like a DF series, blunt instruments that they are, get away with burr swapping because their design and engineering is not as tight?
(“blunt intrument” is not meant in a negative sense. I have four of them right now and I’m quite enjoying trying different burr sets in the 64s and 83s.)
