Cuprajake I have no doubt though, that the niche didn’t stall and simply used it’s safety cut feature to protect the motor….
Ah…the same ridiculous statement as used on home barista to avoid the term stall, after the Timemore stalled on light beans 🤣
I’m going to start off making some things absolutely clear, I am ONLY talking about the GG 63mm conical burrs as they apply to the Niche Zero, I’m making no implied comment on any other GG product or burr.
I have no idea why people want to use different burrs on the Zero, the original Mazzer burrs are really excellent burrs with exactly the characteristics required. During testing (proper, detailed, long term, gruelling, testing) I found they performed really well in all situations. There seems to be an obsession this days with the latest and greatest because the old and ordinary seems to be boring, and somehow no good any more.
Just think who/how you were led down the path to do this (same thinking applies with the Sworks design flat burrs). I followed the threads on home Barista, it’s interesting how they develop, owners who invested initially pushing them. Not one person on this thread decided to measure power consumed when grinding using stock burrs vs GG replacements! Even though the discussion got all “esoteric pseudo scientific” as they do, then touchy feely.

very deep and certain statements being made

Finally what GG say about the burrs
The Gorilla Gear 63mm Black Conical burrs have been designed and made to suit the Mazzer Kony or anything similar ( Fiorenzato, Niche, and more )
We will also be seeking out other grinders that our 64mm Black burrs fit, test them all for you and keep you updated.
The Gorilla Gear 63mm Black conical burrs will increase your dose consistency and extraction, reduce static and clumping, stabilize the operating temperature, and bring a higher taste quality and clarity to the cup.
I know no one likes to waste money, everyone is seeking a better result, but the lack of questioning amazes me. We have influencers to blame for this and sometimes those very vocal forum users (not this forum so much) who push the latest thing because…well because it must be better, it’s more expensive, it’s newer and it comes from x company.
I only ever wanted to help others in pursuit of my own coffee hobby/obsession. I sometimes come across as cynical, but that’s because I want to encourage people to question more and ask the right questions. I want influencers to develop deeper knowledge and “review” products properly, to develop a sense of responsibility for what they push. Possibly even refusing to push crap (e.g. fake Chinese knife sponsorships etc..) a higher moral compass. I won’t sign NDAs, but a lot of people do.
The questions that should have been asked, but weren’t by those who purchased the GG burrs was.
- what testing did you do exactly
- did the grinder slow or struggle with light - dark coffee
- what was the max power consumption for light/dark, as the grind was made tighter and tighter (like in my review of the zero)
If you can’t get clear answers to these questions…move on. I was especially disappointed to read that now people are being told it’s an alignment issue? Something I don’t understand from any scientific basis….perhaps I will be proved wrong, after all, what do I know?
One thing I do know is that the GG burrs designer could have contacted me and asked me to test a set of his burrs….one wonders why he didn’t. If he starts making them for the Duo, he could do the same….
