You’re right about static on flats. My Dad has an x54 and it’s the same at brew settings, coffee all over the place.

Is there a risk of rusting the burrs? I’ve never used RDT as a method on any grinder so not sure.

It is tempting to try the v1 again as it’s almost £100 cheaper and I have a new set of 64mm burrs that I bought for the SJ and never used.

Yeah seems that way! I was going to wait for Amazon to get some for the ease of return if it still has a static problem.

Ernie1 Fellow and others recommend it, some manufacturers even provide a little bottle like this: https://www.baldwins.co.uk/alpha-amber-glass-bottles-with-spray-atomiser-10ml?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4M-F3sDj_AIVxevtCh2jDg1fEAQYAiABEgKRqvD_BwE

A spray or two depending on how many beans you are grinding and a little shake should be enough to make a huge difference with static but not enough to add unsafe levels of moisture.

The only one time I’ve forgotten to RDT made a big mess, but before that I really had no idea what people meant when they said the Ode was a nightmare for static.

Nice comparison here. Looks like gen 2 is an enormous improvement! I’m going to get one on order.

The preorder was originally £314, so I managed to save a bit of money as well. Probably end up putting SSP MP burrs in it eventually

    Has anyone’s arrived yet?

I didn’t preorder as I don’t love it when people take the money before an item is even in stock but excited to place an order as soon as they start arriving.

My ode gen 2 has just shipped today, should arrive in a couple of days. But I am away until Saturday so so no real chance to play with it until Sunday. Seems like more stores have them available so they should start appearing more

Was this Coffee Hit? I have an order in with them too but no dispatch note yet. Perhaps they’re working their way down the pre-orders.

It was coffee hit, I pre-ordered in November so it might take a bit of time to get through them all. Arrived today so I can start to play around with it. Currently seasoning with some older coffee and i will turn that into cold brew

Just had an email that mine is being shipped!

Look forward to hearing your initial thoughts!

So day one, ground through 2 kilos of some test roast at various settings mainly the coarse end so I can make cold brew. And you can see how much chaff and static has accumulated, I haven’t cleaned it at all and it looks very good. Fast enough grind time, around 30 seconds for 100g at the finest setting with a medium light roast. I have only made one pourover so far so I can’t really comment on how good it is yet, but I will put it side by side against my 1zpresso zp6 and see how that works out.

Nice! So that chaff is from an entire 2 kilos??

That’s an incredible improvement. You’d get twice that from 16g on the first gen!

It arrived this morning. Here it is dwarfed by the Super Jolly.

First impressions are very good. It’s far better built than I remember. Great weight to it and nice finish.

It’s fast. Didn’t time it but 16g can’t be more than 4 seconds at pour-over setting.

Static. I mean there’s no comparison. Grinds go straight into the cup, pretty much zero chaff. In fact it’s probably the cleanest electric brew grinder I’ve used.

Flavour is as good as expected but I’ve had a x54 so flavour is similar to that.

In the absence of any old beans I’m just using it straight away without seasoning, but I’m really impressed.

Is the ode purely for filter/pour over then ?

          MattH

Coarser methods yes. It’ll do Moka pot, cold brew, Aeropress etc.

I think people have tried to make espresso with it and the burr set is probably capable, but it’s a stepped adjustment and Fellow have specifically said it’s not designed for espresso.

You can make the ode stepless and it is easy to reverse if you want to. The burrs can just about manage some fast flowing shots like turbo shots and with the SSP MP burrs you can go finer still, but it isn’t recommended.

Hoff’s review is in. Glad I got one before the inevitable post Hoffman rush!

I have to say, I’m over the moon with it and can’t fault it at all.

Haven’t got one, haven’t ordered one. Yet.

Also …. in no great rush.

I drink espresso to pourover (etc) at probably 10:1 ratio, maybe more, so adjusting the Niche isn’t that much of a PITA to do for those relatively infrequent times.

However, it looks interesting (from the Hoff’s video) so, after the initial rush has subsiderd, I might just indulge, if only to join the double-grinder club. Or triple, if you count the one built in to the Oracle (which I don’t, being rather underwhelmed). But I’m inclined towards Hoff’s suspicions about price so, well, I’m gonna wait ’em out for a while …. and my indulge fund is about to get a clobbering on non-coffee stuff anyway so I need a bit f rebuild time.

It also gives me a chance to see what the prevailing view here is once my beta test group …. er, I mean friends, here, have a good go with theirs.

          I’ll get my hat.

Yeah at £379 it’s definitely not an impulse buy. I make a sizeable Moccamaster pot for us each morning and the occasional single cup V60 so it’s about balanced with the two/three espressos each day.

I’d have said £299 would’ve been slightly more realistic although it’s wonderfully designed and very solid so I definitely don’t think it’s wildly overpriced.

I got mine for £315 and I’m very happy I took the pre order gamble, having multiple grinders has definitely increased how many pourovers I drink at home
