That looks good! I was talking to a friend yesterday about something similar - I haven't seen this before, mind - Where for a compact version of the Nurri or the V Evo, you could have one boiler holding water under pressure for steam purposes. Then a heat exchanger would fill the group, but would also mix cold water with it. As the group is heated and with a sensor in it, the user could see the temperature of the water inside the piston in real time. Once it reaches the set temperature and it's stable, the user can simply release the lever and pull the shot -this would then make the brew boiler redundant. I'm no engineer, so I don't even know if that's even a possibility. But it would be a really neat machine. I'd be all over it.

As an accountant, I applaud their effort to make their software compatible with all the mainstream tablets and thereby avoid the not insignificant cost of providing a dedicated tablet and so keeping the overall price lower. I like it a lot; but not having a boiler, it is not able to do steam, which could be a downer for those liking milky drinks?

Some buy separate milk heater/frothers but it's not ideal. PS different makes/models of tablets can be used with the Decent too.

Not trying to be a smart xxrse, it's just that the Meticulous wouldn't really bring anything extra to the bench. It really does look terrific and if I didn't have the Decent it would be seriously tempting. All of which is to say that I've thought about it more since my original post and I won't be backing it. Having had a lot of machines and grinders come and go, I'm going to settle down for a while, I hope. (Other than a couple on pre-order being the Argos and x-Bloom 😀 )

This ks thing is a sucky way to do business, that sculptor is being pushed the same way, you’re not buying a product, have no come back and just have to hope the thing you back comes to your door. 🤷

Let’s not forget Niche Zero has also started off in a funding platform, indiegogo. And it was (is) a success story. The key difference is that the Niche existed a few years prior as a prototype and for me at least, I only “backed it” because it was sent to Dave (completely independent from it all) who dissected the grinder and published quite a lot of material, including pretty much unedited videos showing it all, as well as quite a bit of stress testing.

That for me, made all the difference. Maybe there’s a video of a completely stripped meticulous machine out there, explaining how it’s all put together. If there is, I haven’t seen it yet.

I would normally have the same reservations but the timemore project is quite a bit different given tthere is an established company behind it and so isn’t likely to leave us high and dry. I hve two of their scales which have served me well. Anyway let’s see.

I would like to put down some thoughts too with a whole different perspective from what most of the users here experience. That thing about the chessboard also makes me super suspicious and makes me uncertain to back it. However, on the other hand I live in Brazil (I guess there are other countries that must behave similarly) and we have outrageously high import duties + VAT and State taxes that duplicates the price of the product (it gets somewhere between 95 to 105% of the product price plus shipping cost), all that accompanied by a weak currency and simply no options of good espresso machines here for the home user nor grinders, much less after sale local support. So backing it as a kickstart really shifts the risk-reward equation to me, since 200 USD actually is a 400 USD discount and I also get to pay in two installments. That being said of course it makes us chill about that whole chess thing and no real reviews of the machine. I hope that Lance does that before the campaign ends.

I just don’t know, I have some concerns, but perhaps I wouldn’t after seeing the product…but the Meticulous guy may not wanting me opening it up and poking around inside, because I would surely want to do that. Plus I wouldn’t be there to push it hard (or softly), I’m not, and don’t want to be an influencer, but to take a view on the tech and software.

As for delivery, and production, that’s a completely different ballpark and I know how difficult that is going to be, especially when you have well over 1000 units to supply!

So publicly endorse it would not be something I would do, but to add value to the development…perhaps.

P.S. And I don’t sign NDAs
