Linea Micra size comparison
Great to have another La Marzocco owner here, pretty sure that makes two of us 😅
Congrats on the new machine, you’re in for a treat, and for people regularly telling you you could’ve bought X machine for X thousand pounds less.

🤣 already had that a couple of times!
So nice….. I am just trying to convince myself to spend the money… think it would be perfect in terms of size the looks and making great drinks without too much tinkering 👍
So some random questions…
Did you get a water testing kit with it ? Are you using bottled or filtered for the machine ?
Is it as quick to heat up as has been said ? Or is it a longer period if you want to make milk drinks from turning on the machine?
cheers
Matt
Not to jump in and answer on behalf of @KyleT but I can confirm the Linea Mini heats up incredibly quick, well under 10 mins for the brew boiler, not far off 10 for steam at 1.5 bar. If you leave the steam at the default 2.0 it takes slightly longer, but since I like my milk to stay in the pitcher and not all over the kitchen I lowered the pressure.
With that in mind I’d say the claimed warmup times of the Micra are probably accurate.
Mine also came with a water drop test although I know my water is the hardest of hard so I use Lockhills exclusively. It’s not the perfect scale-free water, but it’s a risk I’m knowingly taking.
Thats great, very compact size
is it grey or silver?

MattH Hi, no water testing kit came with it. I’ve heard from others who have purchased the Micra that despite the manual mentioning water testing kits they didn’t receive one either.
I am putting only Tesco Ashbeck in to it.
About 5mins and its ready to go both brew and steam, i will normally let it warm for 15-20mins though.
Lovely machine that, partial to a bit of grey

Agreed, looks really good there in the grey.
So is the spec the same as the mini? As in saturated group and rotary pump dual boilers

It looks great. I have always asked myself is 230 ml brew boiler enough for temperature stability saturated group or not. The GS3 has 1.3 l brew boiler and the drop is massive going down to 0.23 l.
Simple calculation shows a massive drop of temperature of the water in the brew boiler, for 40 ml something like 12-13 deg C.
They must have done something brilliant to compensate it. In fact I have just watched a video and they feed 85 deg C water into the brew boiler whence the drop of temperature is minimal.
Enjoy the coffee!
PS How do you like the plastic spouts? You might not use them at all in the end.

John_Yossarian a drop in temperature where, at the pid sensor or at the brew head? Asking because I’ve done some measurements lately(in a different db machine) and although temperature at the PID drops as soon as the shot starts, the brew head stills sees the correct temp for more than 40-50 sec with a flow of about 2ml/sec.
As far as I know the Mini has an even smaller capacity (170ml). No idea what’s going on behind the scenes but it’ll happily keep temp seemingly indefinitely.
@Cuprajake yeah rotary dual boiler, just not sure if it’s the exact same pump as used in the Mini.
John_Yossarian I’m not using the plastic spouts I prefer a bottomless portafilter especially with the limited clearance on the Micra beneath the group head. However, I don’t have an issue with the plastic spouts, I never understood the backlash towards them.
I think it was designed that way having in mind most people will use it bottomless.
But having the attachment around is useful when you want to split a shot or whatever.
People that prefer spouted all the time will probably go ahead and buy another portafilter.
Definitely a non-issue if you’re using the bottomless.
I think people just thought it was a shame to resort to plastic as LM’s portafilters are so brilliantly crafted in polished stainless (rather than chromed brass).
I’d suspect the number of people using the spouts is very low anyway, as you say, especially with the reduced clearance on the Micra.

Petre My calculations, as it turned out wrong, were at the brew boiler, 40 mls leaving at ca. 105 deg C and 40 mls entering at around 20 deg C (if not plumbed in, where it should be 10-15 deg C). As it turns out the Micra has a supply from the steam boiler at 85 deg C so the drop in the brew boiler is not significant.
I agree with your estimation. On my V when I pull a shot the temp in the brew boiler PID keeps at 94 or 95 for the shot, ca. 40-45 secs, and 10 secs later would drop to 93-92 which takes around 30 seconds to be up to 94/95.
EDIT: It has 10 deg C offset
