Pompeyexile Yes, I could have gotten a chair for half the price or even less, but this will see me out and more importantly in comfort without compromising my back.
If there’s two things in life I think are worth really indulging yourself in, it’s your shoes if you spend a lot of time on your feet (I used to, but nowhere near so much now), and a really comfortable chair. If you use it over a long enough period, the price becomes almost irrelevant, in my view.
Okay, three things - coffee, obviously.
And …. i have been known to indulge in hifi, dating back to a Mitchell Reference Electronic turntable, Lecson pre-power, IMF transmission line speakers, and Stax electrostatic headphones.
These days, though I still have much of that, it’s often just cheap Echo speakers (bought on a whim) in the bedroom, or Sennheiser headphones, though I do run those through an audio interface (Motu M4, long story) which does at least have a decent ESS DAC, powered from my laptop, and ripped CD collectin on the NAS. I get the Roon idea and was tempted but, I don’t stream much from paid services and rather object to the idea of paying a subscription to access my ripped CDs stored on my own NAS, with or without the accompanying data, etc from Roon. And I balked at the cost of the lifetime licence.
That said, I’m finally getting to replace those Echo things (pretty good, actually, for the price, which was about £40 each for a stereo pair (i.e. £80 in total) wth Sonos - a pair of Sonos ERA 100’s on the way.
The irony is that now that I can finally afford to be hifi-indulgent, I’m old enough that I can’t hear the best of it anyway. Damn.
