Has anyone else tried out SSP burrs in their grinders? I swapped out my filter burrs for Lab Sweets, so far I’m digging them. I’m getting good results for espresso about 7 points above chirp (btw the chirp is WAY more obvious with these than with the stock burrs), good body, I’m noticing a bit clearer separation of milk chocolate and hazelnut out of George Howell Montecarlos Medium coffee. I’ve only done one pourover, didn’t get the grind size right, so my v60 took 5 mins for a 30g dose, obviously too long, was a little dull, but didn’t taste bitter or overextracted, so much better than I ever got with the Zero.
I am getting more retention, as the burrs aren’t seasoned, and in particular noticing a fair amount of chaff accumulating on the plastic of the burr carrier. Also, the burrs seem just a tiny bit smaller in diameter than the mazzers, so they don’t fit as tight in the carriers. Probably not a huge deal, but I did have to put extra care into centering them as I tightened down the screws.
