I have been looking for a nice kettle so that I can make “flawless” pour-over. This morning I tried to adapt my espresso machine to make pour over. I don’t froth milk so I set the boiler pressure to the minimum (why is this not a temperature setting?). It delivers water at just the right temperature. It worked flawlessly! I followed my morning espresso with a great cup of filtered coffee. No kettle needed.
Here are a couple of points from my burr swapping experiences.
I do some clean up each time I swap burrs and as a result the retained grounds are swept away. That means that each time the burrs are swapped the next grind will be a little short. I have started to add 0.2 grams of beans for the first grind. It works. Btw, chaff has reduced to about nothing. Duo, the real deal!
I would like to have another burr storage container and I would like the burrs to go into the container in the opposite order, top first. That seems a bit obvious. If a lot of burr swapping happens these ideas should make the “work” flow easier. (Why is it called work?)
Regarding the Niche Trio. I don’t think the world is ready for the cost associated with automated burr swapping, although I love the idea. My dream grinder would have interchangeable burr sets that include the mounted burrs and adjustment ring. The burr “group” would detach with just a couple of clips and separate from the drive unit, leaving the drive shaft poking out. No retention issues, no tools, infinite burr options. Even better, the grinder would be variable speed with speed registration coming from the burr group. Naturally the group could be disassembled for cleaning…..
