Yeah the Atom’s are great. Not sure how good of a recommendation it is but there’s a barber shop near me that uses one commercially and it’s a workhorse.

Also that Dritan guy on YouTube uses them with his GS3/LM.

I nearly bought the 75 before the x54 but decided against spending that much on a grinder.

There’s also the Super Jolly E, you might be able to find one for sale used. Amazing 64mm grinder and will basically last forever.

Not a big footprint but quite tall.

Question for you all - what size baskets and doses do you generally use? I’ve got an 18g vst in to which I dose 18g and with the micra the shower screen screw leaves an indent in the dry puck

18 in the lm or the e&b nanoquartz and the pullman.

I think with the pressure at the end when you turn off the machine it will get a dent ?

If it bothers you try dropping it to 17.5/17 and see whats happens then.

When the manufacturer of a shower screen gives the capacity they “may” have calculated that based on cross sectional area of holes and their size with basket depth considered….Or they may have decided it based broadly on basket depth and headspace.

The former might require the basket have an 18g load to function as designed, my best guess would be they don’t do this, but rate it mainly on the latter criteria. As all machines are different, it sounds like the coffee must be touching/pushing at the shower screen when it during the shot. This IMO is undesirable….try 16g, see if that improves things and even be prepared to drop to 14g. I am using a machine with different sized baskets at the moment and you can’t really tell the difference between the two larger ones (doubles) by looking. One is just fractionally deeper. I am using the smaller one of the two and that comfortable takes 14 to 15g…the other will be 16 to possibly 18g.

MattH mine seems to indent when dry which maybe doesn’t seem great, we go to all the effort with WDT and for me then to mash a dent in it maybe feels wrong for chanelling etc? I can’t say I’ve tested much mind you!

Patrick Cheers, will maybe test with dropping it down a bit, might possibly get a bigger basket, I’ve never had an IMS basket but they seem a fair bit cheaper than VST and apparently potentially a bit “tastier” :D might be worth trying out

Oh sorry - yes if its denting when you first put in the portafilter then I would knock it back abit 👍

Is this after brewing a shot? I.e: spent pick? If so, I wouldn’t worry if the coffee is tasking good. It’s likely to be causes by the puck being sucked up when pressure is released.

You can always try lowering the dose and see if it helps.

Ps: I’ve been using a VST 18g since forever - and I dose between 18g and 18.5g on my machine without issues.

Yeah as above, I’ve never had a puck that didn’t have an indent after extraction, it’s the puck being sucked up to the shower screen. It’s forceful enough that the puck gets stuck on it sometimes.

I use the included 17g LM basket, and 99% of the time dose between 17 and 18g.

Using the included convex tamper alleviates some of the indentation too.

Had my Micra about a month now and loving it. Have integrated it to Home Assistant if anyone is interested, particularly so I can see graphs of the brew and boiler temps, plus also integrate it to a set of Philips Hue buttons so I can turn it on / off and select the back flush setting without having to grab my phone all the time. Handy.

I also had problems using my Rhino 58.5mm tamper with the stock basket, unseating the puck due to the vacuum! Never had this issue before so now have been using the supplied LM tamper and much more consistent.

itguy interested in the home assistant setup - i may have seen it mentioned in a thread in HB. Is it straightforward to setup.

I do use home bridge buts that was just to get nest showing up in homekit.

I like the idea of seeing the temps etc.

MattH How easy it is depends on how much you like to dabble I suppose. It’s really one step at a time. If you don’t have Home Assistant running then that is step 1. We use a Pi to do it and it will take a little while to install, configure, get HACS setup on it and then you can start to install custom integrations like the La Marzocco one that a few very clever people have written. Once you install that it will find your Micra on your home network but then you have to get your ‘secret’ key that the app on your phone uses when it talks to LM cloud services. There are a few ways to do that and they’re all well documented (basically network traffic sniffing via a proxy server). Once that’s done you can just enter that into the the LM setup on Home Assistant and bobs your uncle. Obviously we have connected our Hue system to Home Assistant too so we can use the switches I mentioned.

It’s very much step by step. We’ve only been using Home Assistant for about 6 weeks, but I have to say it is incredibly powerful and very very useful here.

I have found a video, you might have seen it, that makes a bizarre statement. I do not believe it is possible to match, let alone outperform, a LMLM with this machine.

Good to see competitive machines, great feature set but it’s a hefty price for a machine many won’t have tried,
