DLC or SSP burrs (costs extra), variable RPM - 500 to 1800 - and the burrs set is supposed to last at least 3K kgs. I quite like the idea of this grinder. It appeals to me more than the Duo in all honesty… however… - how long until that fancy potentiometer (or whatever it is) pops? Can it be easily replaced? - does it actually measure the RPM or is it an approximation based on the current (or whatever) it sends to the motor? - is the variable speed a feature which is interesting for a while, but, eventually, you just set and forget? I’ve watched other videos of it and it’s quite impressive. Looks like really well built and at last they seemed to have worked on the issues which have been nagging its less refined sibling, the df64, for a while.

Feels way too expensive at £700. Almost double compared with df64 and only for a better build and variable rpm (not so useful). 🤷♂️

for someone like me though price is key, im never owing a grinder over a £1000 i mainly buy used to be able to afford stuff, ive been lucky in the past with a bit of money, but with the current state of things the family is down nearly £3k a year with cost of living, so the cloth is being well and truly cut. id seen a few posts from porterkeeper online dissing the duo, so i contacted him, he said the build of the niche was junk, but then he also sells alot of these grinders that compete…. one thing to reference with most of these new ilk of grinder is they all need hot starting, they most need bellows,

Where is this grinder made and designed and tested? Grinders in the coffee world seem to be the flavour of the month. For me, I understand the purpose of USP's (Unique selling points) but the jury is still deliberating on the viability of variable speed. Is there that much between any of these 'new' grinders. When you look at the Duo, how it has been designed from the rock solid base of the Zero, then tested and tested again you are buying a known quantity. I simply do not understand how people justify buying the new latest thing, then quite happily shelling out additional hundreds for the latest thing burrs…….perhaps I am just old and stupid

The other thing I'm not sure about is the DLC burrs.... What are they? Are they any good? Some people complain about Italmil burrs (apparently that was one of the weak points of the df64... associated with low quality, cheap burrs... but from what I've been reading all of a sudden this new DLC burrs are the bees knees... Just because they are coated with some nonsense? Err..... I quite like the grinder (on ~~paper~~ screen) I have to say. But again... Let's see how it fares once out in the wild :-)

Not loads but it does seem to be a theme of this type of grinder where they hit the wild, then revise then revise, I know Dave said there were motor issues with that grinder he tested for bb @DavecUK

That was for the little conical and it’s wasn’t motor issues, but gearbox issues with a gear being too thin and jumping off another geat. The motor itself is fine. I have a failed one and when I inspect it will take some photos.

The DF64V I have yet to use because I have other time commitments which take priority. We need to be careful not to confuse the two.

Think I found the thread.

Certainly one or two not enchanted with DFs generally. Not unusual.

My experience of the DF64s is probably different due to having upgraded the portafilter forks, fitting an anit-popcorn bean feeder and Gorilla Gear burrs. Apart from all that I left it completely untouched 😃😄😁

Jake if you can find the avatar of the posters with blown engines I would be grateful. Or date/time of posting. I’ve had a look but TBH Discord gives me a headache. Old brain doesn’t work with a hipster app maybe?

Reading it again (or trying to), it sounds more like electronics issues rather than blown motors.

I currently have the Niche Zero and wanting a flat burr grinder as an alternative .

I mainly do espresso medium to darker roasts with chocolatey flavours.

DF64v (latest version) with the stock DLC burrs or pay the extra for the SSP HU?

The stock burrs will give you what you want. 100%. Also very good with milk espresso.

The SSP Espresso (HU) really shine with lighter roasts.
