Niche has updated the prices for Zero and Duo. In addition, the Duo is no longer sold as two burrs set option. We have a choice of either of the burrs set or both. The company has done a great job in addressing the concerns on pricing and the choice of burrs set options. The pricing has also been rationalised. For example, if I am ordering a zero from Germany, they take away the VAT (before shipping is added) taking the cost to £449. I checked this with a Germany address and obviously, did not order. Not surprised to see the zero go up - as has everything else recently.. Good to have the options now of the single burr sets - and sorting out the VAT issue. Also the shipping date for new order is back to August… clearly a pretty successful launch on Aprils fools day !

@"Ammonite"#p45473 Indeed that too with Mazzer burrs set! IIRC, the DF83 still comes up Itamil, unless they have also defaulted to Mazzer or DLC.

I guess it now gives people everything they want. My personal recommendation would be to get the "directors cut" and have both burr sets. It is well worth it if you do filter. Or if you are pure espresso you might even want to put different espresso burr sets in the other carriers.

Also notice that the one with both burr sets (i.e.: Filter and Espresso burrs) now costs 778.80. If memory doesn't fail me, it was £799? So a reduction of £21.20. Sold out in any case.

Even though I am a brewed coffee dabbler, I would still go for the two burr option…….why you ask? Simple, if you go for the one burr version then you have no option! I am not a big believer (sorry Tom P) of the ever increasing market of speciality burrs. I think very few people have the skill and taste buds to detect the minute differences these burrs can make. I think a lot of people think they can, but I have my doubts! It takes many a moon to train your palette and become a super taster. Many years ago, I made 3 cups of tea. I put sugar in one then stirred it and used the same spoon to remove the tea bags from the other two mugs. Handed one to my mother in law who took a sip and said, you have stirred my cup with the same spoon you used to put sugar in the other………..she was in a different room and I still have no idea if she was a super taster or a con artist!

The early adopters paid £799 plus postage across the world.

In the UK, £20.20 is refunded if the buyer were to choose to retain both burrs set order. Elsewhere, like for example in the case of Oz and EU, they would receive a refund of £150 for both burrs set options as the VAT component is refunded.

If any early adopters were to seek a single burrs set option, they will receive a full refund. They need to re-order again.

chlorox I think it’s up to the individual users if they want to try the SSP burrs set. I don’t think Niche will offer SSP as an option. Furthermore, replacing the Mazzer burrs may also void the warranty.

chlorox I doubt that Niche will offer other burrs. df64coffee.com has SSP for a good price for those in the Asia Pacific region.

Nope I cancelled my support for the timemoee kickstarter after seeing hedrick’s review of the 78s. I figured that from the sound of it, it may not add more than what I am already getting with my 64mm ssp burrs and the risk was such that i would rather wait for the 78s to be sold widely and for more user reportsto emerge.

I was wondering if niche themselves was going to offer ssp 83mm burrs as an alternative choice to the mazzers. The cost increase from buying the niche with mazzers and then adding ssp burrs would be too much for my budget.

chlorox - the main issue I believe is that the Niche has been fine tuned to operate with the supplied burrs. I’m not talking about a 2 day test and some waffling followed by a YouTube video, I’m talking about almost 2 years of constant testing and successive refinement. Don’t ask me how I know this… 😉

For Niche to start offering different burrs at this stage would go against their reputation and principles. Maybe in the future they might offer if follow extensive testing, but I can’t see this happening anytime soon. Also… SSP burrs are a tiny minuscule fraction of their market (going by Niche Zero numbers they sold a lot of grinders. If they do offer, would they be able to cope with demand? Maybe, maybe not. Who knows.
