Cuprajake im obsessed with cups, i look on ebay all the time, i have quite a collection of illy espresso cups, but i want some bigger cups, ceramics, thinner more delicate cups, but where to buy? etsy? or are there better options?
Ernie1 Big fan of the notNeutral flat white size and use their larger mugs for filter. I tend to prefer companies you can easily buy from to replace broken ones but if you’re feeling flush and not worried about buying one-offs then this site has some nice ones by independent potters. HAY Boroscilate are a bit different as another option. Or Japanese Fireking mugs if you want something totally different.
Dusk I have some nice ones off Etsy, they’re very thin but surprisingly strong as I’ve knocked them countless times and not broken them. From Sabine Schmidt pottery. Might be worth getting in touch with a ceramicist for some custom ones.
whinmoor85 Check these out: https://www.mk-ceramics.com/ https://www.bisqit.store/ https://mindsetstore.eu/ Senay is popular on Etsy but her shop is down at the moment, should be back soon. https://www.instagram.com/senayceramics/
JammyDodger Hey Jake, I really love using the small bowls made by Leach Pottery for my morning coffee. They’re so tactile and made by people dedicated to their craft. The pottery has been producing stoneware in Cornwall since the 1920s, and is an important piece of British pottery history. Well worth supporting! Pompeyexile I remember the first time I came across a coffee cup without any handles or as I like to call it ‘a bowl’ and that was at a coffee shop in Paddington Station the first time I went on the Eurostar… Couldn’t drink the bugger for five minutes as it was too chuffin hot to hold!🥵
JammyDodger Pompeyexile Yes it can be difficult if they’re too full! The trick is not to fill them up to the top, then the top part of the cup (where you hold and drink from) stays cool. Similar to Japanese chawan or tea bowls, you don’t fill them all the way up. But! If you’re wedded to a handled vessel, Leach pottery do some nice cups too. I just happen to like drinking from a bowl like a beast 😂
OldGregg Can second the not neutral cup, really great for pouring art…but my favorite commercially produced cup is the Kinto Nori. Whenever I travel, the only souvenir I ever look for is a cup for espresso / cortado size
Pompeyexile I have the notNeutral latte cups and mugs too from their Lino range but not yet the espresso. I also have a couple of the same double walled glass jobbies I got from Aldi. Not the most elegant but do the job nicely.
Cuprajake for my normal cups ive used the loveramics cups and the coffeecups uk site quite a bit, like i said i have loads of illy cups too, there have been some good shouts in the thread so far though
