A month since the Duo landed on the table. What do I think? Has anything changed ?
Summary : All good; a massive convenience; and, I love it.
Plus: Considering I only drink black and prefer lighter stuffs, I like the separation of flavours.
My wife, who seldom comment about coffee, said a few times there had been a marked increase in the taste/flavour, aroma and prefers the coffee from Duo. My daughter drinks a long black and that too > medium. She too likes the coffee.
They think the grinder looks great in terms of aesthetics and that too coming from them as they have strong reservations / opinion about the look and feel.
Burrs swap: Those who think it is a faff, inconvenient and so on should grow up a bit!
The swap is the best part of the grinder as it is a breeze and a big plus. This is despite the fact I swap the burrs at least twice a day and even 3-4 times at times on week ends.
I enjoy the clarity and the flavour I get from the filter burrs set.
Concerns: Are there any concerns? Just one for me. I have already aired it here. My main concern would be the risk of threads wearing out, considering the frequency of daily burrs swap. I will know over time.
Minor irritant: Fines around the thread, which I really don’t like.
Today’s routine: The usual espresso. Started the day with Tim Wendelboe and North Star Brazil.
I then had Crankhouse Colombia - Jhoan Vergara Finca La Flores, Washed Thermal Shock for breakfast. The notes on the tin are Sparkling Elderflower and Blackcurrant.
The flavours were spot on. The ground was full of floral aroma; and, the floral aroma and the taste stayed throughout the coffee from start to finish. It’s a nice coffee with a good fruity acidity.
Ground 17.6g at #5 on the Duo for about 44g. The shot ran faster finishing the shot at 22s at 7 bars.
Edit :
Filter Zero Point I am still holding the view any grind reference that I have on the brew burr is relative to an un-configured zero point for brews. All the 3 upper burrs carrier position fell below the 0 point requiring a reset of the 0 point for brews. This isn’t possible for obvious reasons. One therefore requires a new hopper that can be used to zero the filter burrs. It might be OTT. But, my view on this doesn’t change.
