Inspector Ok steam boiler was on and now cooling off been about 1.5hrs, ticking going on about every two seconds but I can only hear it if I put my ear against gauge area :)
MediumRoastSteam Inspector - mine has been off since 8am. Still ticking away every 5 seconds, but same as @Inspector I have to put my ear against gauge area. Very strange.
DavecUK MediumRoastSteam - mine has been off since 8am. Still ticking away every 5 seconds, but same as @Inspector I have to put my ear against gauge area. Heat and bubbling in the capilliary tube?
Inspector Surely there shouldnt be any heat/bubbling left after 12 hours :) Will check mine again in the morning before i switch it on.
Inspector DavecUK my wife turned the machine on already in the morning I couldn’t check it, but it has been 4hrs since it’s turned off and now ticking like a clock hahaha. I also unplugged it. I don’t get this :)
skylark Mine hasnt ben on at all today and … no ticking, surprise surprise but tomorrow i expect to be able to hear it from around 18″ distance. Now I’m not claiming to have mega powers when it comes to hearing but its as MRS describes, like a swishing analogue watch . Strange that it doesnt seem to unwind itself for a good few hours after powerdown. It definitely doesnt sound like a boiler or internals cooling down but i suppose that’ll be how things will be accepted …. i’m not too worried about MY machine now that others can confirm my findings. Cant speak for others who may have way more enquiring minds than me ….
MediumRoastSteam skylark - Machine has been off for 24 hours. Checked just now and guess what? It’s still ticking away, at the same frequency. Go figure…
MediumRoastSteam MediumRoastSteam - as reported above, doesn’t seem to tick away when the machine is on. So I turned the machine off (while hot) and tried to hear it out. No ticking. 🤔🧐
DavecUK MediumRoastSteam Is this off off, or off. Wall socket off (or unplugged) vs switch on machine. I can’t remember if the machine has a DPDT switch or not.
MediumRoastSteam DavecUK Is this off off, or off. MediumRoastSteam So I unplugged the machine and the noise is still there. I then moved the machine somewhere else, and, to my surprise, the noise is still there. I tried both Dave. Off and Off Off. :-) PS: Looking at some pictures, looks like the machine does have a DTDP (Dual Pole Dual Throw switch) or at least a DPST (Dual Pole Single Throw) switch.
DavecUK Inspector If it’s ticking like a clock when unplugged….it must be mechanical and heat related, otherwise I can’t explain it. There isn’t really a power source of any note within it? Perhaps a small cap keeping the RTC going….if it’s got one. Not sure it has.
MediumRoastSteam There is definitely something going on, even when the machine is not powered. It doesn’t happen when the machine is on or hot. So yeah… A mystery. RTC as in Real Time clock/controller? I don’t think it keeps track of time though?
Doram MediumRoastSteam There is definitely something going on, even when the machine is not powered. It doesn’t happen when the machine is on or hot. So yeah… A mystery. Maybe it’s mining crypto currency? Did you notice a pile of bit-coin under the machine?
DavecUK MediumRoastSteam RTC as in Real Time clock/controller? I don’t think it keeps track of time though? Probably not, really cannot think what it might be….especially if it’s unplugged…mouse in machine?
MediumRoastSteam DavecUK - No idea. I’m sure there’s an explanation for it… Not worth the thought or worrying about it though.
skylark Free wristwatch inside each machine, just gotta find it 😁 Mine’s been off since lunchtime and still ticking, i’ll miss it when it stops!
