For the sake of sounding boring! I bought into the Graph project at full price. I had been chatting away with the owner quite happily on Insta then it became apparent despite his position, he did not really know what he was doing. I say this, because he stated that his DF 55 was producing inconsistent shots. I suggested to him 2 things. Firstly he ought to use a grinder for testing more based on what his customers might have ie at least a 64/65 mm grinder. That would give a completely different set of results to the smaller one. I suggested he also go as upmarket as he could buy or borrow. Secondly, I was worried that the dramatically smaller basket size would produce a puck to deep, it would make getting a uniform extraction impossible. Then he blocked me!
Do not get me wrong. I love the idea of a step down arrangement but having tried it, for me he got it wrong. I state again, the difference that a 53mm puck has over a 58mm is night and day so why go beyond that?I have had dozens of smaller, mainly vintage coffee machines. The Arrarex Caravel being one produces a fantastic espresso, but due to the confines of design, is aimed at the Italian market where the 7gm single, 12 to 14 gm double rules. Sure you can buy a triple and load 21 gms in, but it will taste shite
