The Decent arrived on Friday, looking rather smug inside its neatly packed suitcase. Honestly, it’s adorable — positively tiny when compared to the Big Boss, the Evo V1.

Instead of behaving sensibly and trying one of the stock Decent profiles, curiosity (as usual) got the better of me. I recreated an Evo‑style profile on the stock basket for the very first shot, and to my genuine surprise, the result was rather lovely.
I’ve been drinking this beautiful Zennor’s Colombian for a while, which is frankly delicious 😋. I can already see where the shot could be improved, particularly around flow and coffee divergences — but even so, a very respectable start.

The scale is Arc!

For the second shot, I loosened the grind slightly and tweaked the profile. It was definitely an improvement on the first, although it still requires additional tweaks.

First impressions? I’m pleased. Very pleased.
I’m fully aware this is neither a lever nor will ever be. The plan now is to dial in a few profiles that suit our light to medium‑light tastes, and then let my daughter decide: adopt the Decent, or keep the beast — the Evo or swap every 6 months or a year. 😊
