Just received my Duo and am going through the manual. I won't have to worry about zeroing it for a while but before I attempt it I'll need to re-read it several times as it's a lot more involved than zeroing my Zero. What's a good setting to start with for dialing in a dose? I'm thinking around six?

@"thusband"#p50256 6 or 9…..or anything. You have a process to go through. By that I mean your current shot is just an indicator to the next one you pull. Are you seasoning the burrs at all? Pull your first shot at 6 and obviously time it. Then adjust up or down, until taste takes over. A lot depends on the beans. How old they are, how they have been roasted

I am finding a setting of 11 optimal for 15-16g doses. Anything 10 or lower is causing a choke for me, 13 or higher results in a gusher.

Depends on beans etc but med light I'm around 5-6 Once you find a happy number it's just a marker. Has no real relevance to anyone else just keeps you consistent

As Jake says… it’s just a marker. Zeroing won’t make any difference in the cup, what so ever. So, same here. Brand new, put about 2lb of Aldi finest beans to season it. I’m currently drinking a Nicaraguan coffee, medium roasted, on setting 6.5. On the Zero, it’s on setting 15.

Thanks all, I'll go with 7 as a marker and see what happens. On my Zero it was around 15 also (8 or 9 for my wife's decaf).

Tonight I discovered mine was definitely not zero from delivery. The optimum position was spot on but after adjusting zero I had to move the dial clockwise by 4 clicks, which makes my old 11 a 7. This seems to be more in line with others.

Like Jake, I am around 4.5 to 5 for light to medium.

This morning was my first attempt. My wife's decaf at 6 was a brick, nothing got through. Hers at 10 and my regular at around 15 seems good. Just like my old Zero, everybody will have a different setting. I think I'm gonna like this.

Does it take long to change settings or is it simply a notch switch??

LMSC I’m finding I have to go down to 3 or sub-3 for this light roast [1]. Do you think it might not be calibrated?

citynerd I have done 2 for Smith Street’s Gesha recently for 25s shot. I haven’t recalibrated.

LMSC may I ask what basket and how many grams are you using? I have just came across a light roast and even at 2, I can barely get to 20s with 17g. Using IMS H24(16g) curved basket.

I’ve just got my Niche Duo, and swapped to my old. SSP HU. Using Union Roast Revelation. My first shots are at number 3 for 16g 28 seconds!😨 Not far off the chirp, and they’re aligned/calibrated. Perhaps it gets better. 😕

fwiw im at 2 on the duo with light roast, on the decent with a turbo profile and faster basket

this is the same bean on 2 with a argos profile with a ims stock basket

i had the ssp hu in my mazzer along side the duo when testing and differences were only small,

later i fit ssp mp burrs in the duo but they were a finiky burr,

PianoMan - Did you buy the Duo with two burr sets? If so, I’d just use one of the carriers for the SSP burrs, have side by side, and then decide which one you prefer.

If you didn’t… Then have whichever one you have, use it for a week or two, then swap and evaluate.

MediumRoastSteam Good question… Just the one burr set. I already have 83mm SSP burrs, so used those. They took about thirty minutes to align, but I got there. I’m quite close to the “chirp”, which is a little concerning. If I used a faster basket, I don’t think I’d be able to dial in. To be honest, if there’s not much difference in the taste profile between the SSP HU and stock, I’ll throw the stock burrs back in and sell the SSP’s. 😟

try stock and they will need a small seasoning, i just just them,

i hover around 2-5 on most beans,

wouldnt worry unless you need to choke the machine, which is pointless,
