Grif The CBR1000F models after the FJ were 98 bhp restricted. I am pretty sure the FJ was the last full power version. Some stupid European restriction rules that came in. I know some were producing less than 98 BHP and were as low as 90 ish. Then I believe they were unrestricted right before they ceased production, but unsure. I think if yours could only do 130, then it must have been restrictedā¦especially if 130 wasn't a hard stop e.g. accelerating strongly to 130 and then nothingā¦.at 130 I would have still been in 4th with 2 to go.
I rode a restricted one that a mate had, felt like a completely different engine. Mine was speed limited, I think it was160, I got mine with only 500 miles on when purchased it. It would pull quite strongly all the way to 160 mph and then just stop..(electronically limited). I only tried it onceā¦on a track of course š
Because the restrictions were on the ports, not the carbs, it seriously affected the breathing of the engine and the way it responded right through the rev range. e.g. in 2 and 3rd, if you twisted the throttle hard, the bloody thing used to go bananasā¦.you would be doing 100mph in 3rd before you knew it. I remember the Fireblades were very quick, but people had trouble keeping the front wheel on the groundā¦in the twisties of course, the fireblades were excellent, whereas mine was very heavy ridden hard, and a little frightening. long time ago now.
I always fancied getting a more lightweight bike like the R1 I think it was.
P.S. When younger I listed after the K750 triple H2 2 stroke <lol> and before that the Yamaha LC250 and the legendary Z900
P.P.S. All these machines were old of course and of their dayā¦1988 was a long time ago.
