Thanks for the info. The pros/cons list is pretty much in line with what I’ve experienced with my DF83, which shouldn’t be a surprise, given that they are from the same company.
Dusk -Noisy, not the motor specifically, without any beans it just has a gentle hum but when grinding anyone with sensitive ears won’t enjoy it.
I’ve really only had three experiences with grinders and noise. One with my old Baratza Virtuoso+, my DF83, and whatever commercial grinder they use at my local roaster/coffee shop. To my ears, they all make about the same amount of noise when grinding. Maybe the DF83 is louder than the Virtuoso+, but not by much, and whatever downside there is to the volume is more than made up by the fact that it took 30s for the Virutoso+ to grind my usual dose of beans (read: 30s of noise), and that got reduced to less than 10s of grinding time (noise) from my DF83.
Many folks have commented on the noise from the DF83, and presumably will do so with the DF64 v2. The noise is pretty much entirely from the burrs crushing the beans, as both grinders are quiet when empty. My question is, is there a grinder intended for home use that’s considered “quiet” when grinding, and how do those grinders accomplish that?
