Excitement builds!! Looking at the architecture it looks like someone in the UK too! I have absolutely zero interest in what the influencers think of this one, it’s a day one purchase for me.

I have not ordered the gbw allground - kinda waiting to see what the philos is like.. tbh nothing wrong with my current allground….. Still cannot see a price officially on the mazzer site - nor of they will have a reseller in the UK rather than a import from Venice.

I might’ve imagined this but I think @"DavecUK"#1 suggested Mazzer will retail this themselves and aim for a sub £1k price point (possibly for early adopters, with a later price rise). I’ve been waiting years for a single-dose, multi-method grinder from a heritage manufacturer that I like the design of. The latter two usually being the reason for me not buying anything yet. Tbh, even if it’s not perfect it’ll be an upgrade on my current setup and like the LM, just nice to own and use.

Looks great. I think I’ve read somewhere it’s between 900-100 euros.

Rumours on HB, so take this with a pinch of salt, are that the Philos has been delayed. Wouldn’t surprise me given the impact global conflicts on supply chains.

Yeah I saw that. Though made me laugh that places took deposits and then refunded especially as I thought that mazzer were selling them direct to start with… but theres no info in the mazzer site either. Just waiting to see the review tbh - anyhow my blind shaker is about to arrive - so something else to play with 😂

Yeah the retailers I've spoken to in the UK said they had no plans to stock it. Looks like it will indeed be Mazzer direct. I can see the reviews being disappointing. There's no shortage of low priced 64mm flats and people who don't care about build quality, place of build and manufacturer heritage are going to say it's overpriced and find plenty of flaws I'm sure. It's an interesting price point because you can get capable single dosers for half the price or less, and it's obviously not going to compete with the top-end grinders like Kafateks etc. I think the only way this will sell well in the current market is if influencers really get behind it. Then again, I don't think Mazzer necessarily need it to sell massively well as the home market still isn't their bread and butter. I'm excited for it and have said before, will be buying it regardless but I don't expect it to be a flawless grinder.

depends really, the build should be better than that of the df and time mores, you would think, but its a saturated market there has been a zerno fs and a kafatec and weber eg1 all around £1500 on the old forum

It’s great to be able to convert from stepped to stepless.

I love stepped as there’s absolutely no ambiguity on settings when you’re jumping from pourover to espresso and vice versa. But I can see the benefits of stepless too for dialling in if required. Luckily I haven’t needed to yet, most of the espresso I’ve tried has been around 22-25.

I also didn’t bother checking actual zero, mine doesn’t chirp at zero and clearly I’ve got plenty of headroom since I’m grinding nowhere near zero so that’s fine for me. I’ve no inclination to take apart a brand new grinder that’s working well.

Good to know on the screwdriver! As someone who works on Harleys (mostly SAE/imperial) I’m no stranger to ‘unusual’ hardware.

I guess working on the harley the last thing you want is the wrong size tool and a blemish in all that chrome 😎

Also, reading the manual, other than changing the burrs these are the only 3 screws “you are authorised” to remove!!

Ive seen some comments about noise level and grind speed of the Duo and Philos

So i present to you todays unscientific comparison.

Both dialled in 21.5g and ran circa 6 seconds preinfusion and 28 seconds until dump on the evo2

This isn’t a better vs worst as i intend to keep both.

Haven’t checked the actual grind times!!

Adrianmsmith I am still under impression Philos is tad quieter but maybe it just different pitch ? Looking at the video grind time seems to be around 21 sec Duo and 17 sec Philos. Which seems about right as iirc Niche states it grinds 1g/s?

Someone told me on here when I asked for the 18g espresso grind time it was 12s, can anyone confirm if it’s 12s or 18s

One thing of note with the Philos seems to be static electricity

Im not sure of the accuracy or validity of the statement but i heard on a video, possibly daddy got coffee(?) that the grounds cup is grounded via its magnetic bracket and that helps reduce static.

All i can say is at the moment its all but non existent.

Put a piece of rubber, plastic or wood, under the cup and you’ll find that out soon enough if the influencer’s claim is valid.

Must have missed this part from the videos or skipped it. Jumped onto testing it though and used rubber from the scales. The only thing I noticed is there was less ground stuck to the bottom of the cup (I think). Will test again with next coffee and using two layers of rubber.

Adrianmsmith sorry I’m not following. I thought you are not getting static with the Philos at all? So why do you need RDT? Or maybe I am not reading your post correctly.

I was just suggesting that, if that was the case, a quick experiment to assert whether the magnetic bracket has any effect on static would be to isolate it. But maybe I’m understanding this wrong….

I have issues with grinders that otherwise require RDT.

On a funny note the worst ever was niche zero with monsoon Malabar .

Definately the beans were the issue. Never seen anything like it. Grinder turned brown!!

Thanks. I believe the suggestion of grounding was via the magnetic cup positioner attached to the body. I think maybe that part of the bottom plate is actually some kind of plastic but worth checking…..

I guess your rather nice leather cup surround is stopping the cup touching the magnet so if you have not had issues then its another case of duff information🤓

The lack of static is welcome however they achieve it!!

Adrianmsmith the leather cup surround doesn’t cover the bottom - just the sides as I had to remove them bottom part when using with niche cup .

On another note it’s a strong magnet as even with two layers of rubber you can still feel it griping.

It seems to be making a difference to the coffee sticking to the bottom of the cup. This was my only issue with Philos that sometimes you had to tap it to release stuck grounds. This time everything just went in one go.
