Excitement builds!! Looking at the architecture it looks like someone in the UK too! I have absolutely zero interest in what the influencers think of this one, it’s a day one purchase for me.

I have not ordered the gbw allground - kinda waiting to see what the philos is like.. tbh nothing wrong with my current allground….. Still cannot see a price officially on the mazzer site - nor of they will have a reseller in the UK rather than a import from Venice.

I might’ve imagined this but I think @"DavecUK"#1 suggested Mazzer will retail this themselves and aim for a sub £1k price point (possibly for early adopters, with a later price rise). I’ve been waiting years for a single-dose, multi-method grinder from a heritage manufacturer that I like the design of. The latter two usually being the reason for me not buying anything yet. Tbh, even if it’s not perfect it’ll be an upgrade on my current setup and like the LM, just nice to own and use.

Looks great. I think I’ve read somewhere it’s between 900-100 euros.

Rumours on HB, so take this with a pinch of salt, are that the Philos has been delayed. Wouldn’t surprise me given the impact global conflicts on supply chains.

Yeah I saw that. Though made me laugh that places took deposits and then refunded especially as I thought that mazzer were selling them direct to start with… but theres no info in the mazzer site either. Just waiting to see the review tbh - anyhow my blind shaker is about to arrive - so something else to play with 😂

Yeah the retailers I've spoken to in the UK said they had no plans to stock it. Looks like it will indeed be Mazzer direct. I can see the reviews being disappointing. There's no shortage of low priced 64mm flats and people who don't care about build quality, place of build and manufacturer heritage are going to say it's overpriced and find plenty of flaws I'm sure. It's an interesting price point because you can get capable single dosers for half the price or less, and it's obviously not going to compete with the top-end grinders like Kafateks etc. I think the only way this will sell well in the current market is if influencers really get behind it. Then again, I don't think Mazzer necessarily need it to sell massively well as the home market still isn't their bread and butter. I'm excited for it and have said before, will be buying it regardless but I don't expect it to be a flawless grinder.

depends really, the build should be better than that of the df and time mores, you would think, but its a saturated market there has been a zerno fs and a kafatec and weber eg1 all around £1500 on the old forum

DavecUK Im sure it could be trained to post a link to an influencer video, and then generate 5-7 replies about how evil those people are, the advice shouldn’t be followed, and how it would be great if unwitting people didn’t fall prey to them. Then, all we’d have to do is come in and read instead of post. :D

Might be a good idea to give it a go. If it is trained based on the content of the posts rather than the subject lines only, it could be a great utility to facilitate search and common questions, like “how do I descale my machine?” Or “why does the temperature on my Elizabeth goes to 120C”, or “How to make my own water for my coffee machine?” Etc.

FadedFrontiers Gotcha, even the video i watched said the auger is a slow feeder….but i previously missed that part.

Still unclear to me why an horizontal burrs grinder require a motor with higher torque, moreover in a single dose horizontal burrs grinder is basically impossible to start the grinder with the burrs already packed with beans.🤔

giampiero The Eureka Mythos is the original grinder to have vertical model mounted burrs, in this case at a 45 degree angle. It is also an out and out commercial that is also hopper fed. This means that there will always be beans in the auger

dfk41 I think i generate some confusion about horizontal and vertical burrs….which in true i should mention about horizontal or vertical motor shaft. Obviously i’m speaking about the Philos, and my curiosity was why the Mazzer guy said that the Philos ( horizontal motor shaft and vertical burrs) require a motor with higher torque compared to a Super Jolly ( vertical motor shaft, horizontal burrs).

There were vertically mounted coffee grinder burrs about a hundred years ago.

giampiero the burrs are a different design, and the Philos also has an auger/prebreaker, so that may be the reason higher torque is needed.

JammyDodger I’d agree with this.Even though the auger isn’t specifically tasked with prebreaking in the Philos, it does when the chamber is sufficiently full of beans. All of this adds up. The total surface area capable of grinding and crushing the beans at startup will affect the torque and transient current required of/by the motor.

Adrianmsmith My curiosity was not a complain about none of the specs of this “endgame” grinder, I was simply surprised to heard that grinder with such burrs orientation, require a motor with higher torque ( i stated since my first question that has been said by a Mazzer guy in another video,) it was a genuine curiosity, nothing else.

Sorry i wasnt actually directing that at you, its just every new grinder thats released the motor is too big or too small in various comments. Ive never read “and the motor spec seems perfect for this grinder”

For me it’s as simple as a grinder should never stall, doesn’t matter the size of the motor as long as it doesn’t stall otherwise it’s a no go for me.

I am very pleased with my Philos, I don’t find any grind creep, I have not gone stepless as I think the adjustments are finite enough for me.

I am still set stepless.

The drift is half a unit in 2 to 3 shots.

Thats 4 seconds shot drift in 2 to 3 shots.

I guess most of you get that just from weighing beans shot to shot.

How many of you weigh to half a bean to get the exact weight.

And is that spare half a bean called Eric. 🐝

(You will need to be a certain age and have a stupid sense of honour and of course be thinking about bees not beans, sorry this isn’t the word association thread is it)

Anyway theres no way on earth it will drift set for stepped adjustment.

Grinding stepless with finger very lightly touching the gap between the body and grind adjuster ring stops it.

If i had time im relatively sure a very light dab or 111 would stop it but haven’t tried yet.

It is NOT a real life issue to worry about .

This is my experience too. No shift but also just using stepped and switching back forth a lot between filter and espresso so never more than about 4 shots in the same position.

Settings seem reliably repeatable.

Not sure if this is even possible (before the physics buffs come at me) but I notice there’s enough torque to jolt the grinder even at 12 odd kilos.

Maybe this is enough to shift the burrs slightly when stepless?

Easy experiment to carry out I guess if you just switch it on and off a few times without grinding anything and see if it changes.

Thats not an issue and not possible to design out at this price point 🫣 would need quite a complicate ramp rate to keep it as near instant a start-up as people would want.
