Ive not compared dimensions but i think theres very little difference in space requirements whilst still retaining full use of rather low wall mounted cupboards … and fully plumbed in … ?? 🤔

Also for anyone that has a lever machine if something breaks how on earth do you send it off? Doesn’t it weigh like 45kg?!

HarveyMushman haha, I have a boss and there is no way she’s letting me put a decent or a lever machine in our kitchen. I may even have to opt for the niche over the philos. I was looking at lever machines but who am I kidding, and if 9 bar straight shots are good enough for cafés, they’re good enough for me at home. I’m basically buying a mini commercial setup in essence anyway. I like the mini r with the new shot clock and the pre brewing but I just feel like it’s going to guzzle electricity and I really don’t brew more than 4 shots a day and at varying times.

Thanks for the reference for those burrs because stronghold for me is properly dark and roasty and if it still copes with that then that’s the darkest I would ever dream of going, I would normally order their resolute or Santa Elena on sub in the past to cover milk and straight shots

This was similar to my logic. I like good coffee but I still like an element of convenience and whilst the LM is massively overkill for such endeavours, it does feel somewhat like having a commercial setup in the house.

It took some convincing myself that I even wanted to single dose espresso and as much as I like the Philos I still flirt with the idea of going back to an on-demand grinder for espresso.

thetravdog My one and only machine has been the micra… love it - makes great coffee.. and is the perfect size for my place….. - it goes on a bit of discount every now and again.. Black Friday, some holidays.. worth signing up to the lamarzocco mailing lists or insta to see when they drop (they do some for the mini as well)

But I admit I like to keep it all simple..and I am not into the lighter roasts/flowery flavours…. So calls it dark etc is perfect for this setup..

Its a bit heavier than the synchronika admitted, not sure about the lmlm and haven’t googled it. Have never yet had to ship a machine for repair though 😎

Synchronika broke around week 5 but got the dealer to spend parts, even they didnt want to be bothered yoyo shipping it.

Parts that are likely to fail or are consumables are very easy to sort out at home, in general.

Theres a lot more manufacturer and user help available for things like ACS and Decent than a lot of other manufacturers.

As i said above, the same things dont appeal to all of us

For many years i thought the idea of a lever machine at home was a joke . I now realise i was wrong.

Your wife sounds like mine, opinion wise but we won’t be swapping out the lever any time soon and she thinks the Decent is Ugly. We cant even agree on that!!!

Luckily I’ve never regretted selling any of my many previous machines … my wife wasnt happy for a few weeks when the sage dual boiler went! But that was 4 machines back now.

The evo2 has been sitting there longer than any of the previous 5 machines 🤭

Yeah the Micra is quite a bit smaller and lighter at 19kg. The Mini is 30kg but thankfully I’d not been to the gym the day I collected mine so was just about able to haul it into the car.

profesor_historia I checked one out at LCF and I just didn’t love it. The pre wetting function is a bit useless, didn’t have a no burn steam wand and I would prefer a rotary pump. I think the Elizabeth is a much better option at that price! Again, just thinking of the serviceability and therefore longevity of the LM

profesor_historia the Bianca is nice but the E61 style is busy, I’m never using the hot water, and probably a bit too fiddly for my Mrs

Are they still using LM Minis on the stalls there? Another thing that swayed me was when I was at LCF for two days back in 2017 and a lot of stalls were using Minis. They were happily churning out more coffee in a weekend than I would in a year which gave me faith in how well it would hold up in the home.

How about the Vesuvius ? You can easily run it at straight 9bar shots but pressure profiling is the option if and when you fell like it/change your mind in the future. It is a e61 group though

I agree. I’ve got the original Mini which has a ‘manual’ wheel to adjust the brew boiler temp and then a screw style fitting to adjust steam boiler pressure.

I think I technically can do the above with WiFi also but I’ve never connected the app.

I’m not sure why they switched to fully digital rather than keeping the manual control alongside it. I think it’s part of LMs wider foray into ‘connected’ services of late which I’m not a fan of.

It’s a whole other discussion but I often recommend if people aren’t limited on space and don’t mind buying used, to go for a used original Mini over the new one.

It does work over Bluetooth as well - i like the app esp the new version. Very handy to have a schedule to start up the machine , and then change my steam pressure and temp on a whim. Though once set I dont really fiddle that much

I guess being WiFi enabled must be a selling point for some people, when I see a WiFi enabled oven or washing machine then I will actively avoid buying it

I heard the build on the newer lm stuff is more in line with prosumer now vs the ‘tank’ like build of a commercial machine for the home

Me personally i love the look of the mini and the micra, however for what i drink if feel like my hands are some what tied as i like to jump profiles between coffee.

If i were into darker stuff then id be happy

Dont discount the bianca it’s a very capable machine
