Had a meeting cancelled, needless to say I wasted no time getting the grinder set up.
@JammyDodger has taken much nicer pictures but I’ll echo all of the comments made already. Everything about the unboxing and first impressions say quality product. ‘Made in Italy’ proudly stamped on the box and a serial number card with the signature of the person who assembled it. Nice touch.
Mine was flawless, the attention to detail and feeling of heft/quality is inherently Mazzer. The finish is nicer than expected, photos I’d seen online made it look much shinier. I’m a big fan of Mazzer’s traditional thick paint coatings but this anodised finish is really nice.
The first thing I’ll say is that the rear adjustment is absolutely a non-issue. If you place your hand out in front of you, your hand actually rests on the adjuster fairly naturally, there’s no awkward movements required. The adjuster is buttery smooth. Easily the smoothest movement in any grinder I’ve owned even at the lower end of the scale. I love that it’s stepped and dialling in was simple.
You’d have to have very deep, very low cabinets to obscure the view of the gauge.
I ran 50g through the burrs (I got the I200 burrs) and then just got the espresso dialled in. Did a quick retention test (0.1g average on the first five grinds) . I was wayyyy too fine on the first shot at setting 12 and ended up being dialled at 25.
I’m using a medium blend to dial it in so difficult to judge the impressions of the burrs until I get a lighter SO in there. Tasty coffee though nonetheless, balanced and what I’d expect from a 64 flat.
Yet to test the filter but will do a back to back later.
Here’s some quick photos and a video of the retention.
