Excitement builds!! Looking at the architecture it looks like someone in the UK too! I have absolutely zero interest in what the influencers think of this one, it’s a day one purchase for me.

I have not ordered the gbw allground - kinda waiting to see what the philos is like.. tbh nothing wrong with my current allground….. Still cannot see a price officially on the mazzer site - nor of they will have a reseller in the UK rather than a import from Venice.

I might’ve imagined this but I think @"DavecUK"#1 suggested Mazzer will retail this themselves and aim for a sub £1k price point (possibly for early adopters, with a later price rise). I’ve been waiting years for a single-dose, multi-method grinder from a heritage manufacturer that I like the design of. The latter two usually being the reason for me not buying anything yet. Tbh, even if it’s not perfect it’ll be an upgrade on my current setup and like the LM, just nice to own and use.

Looks great. I think I’ve read somewhere it’s between 900-100 euros.

Rumours on HB, so take this with a pinch of salt, are that the Philos has been delayed. Wouldn’t surprise me given the impact global conflicts on supply chains.

Yeah I saw that. Though made me laugh that places took deposits and then refunded especially as I thought that mazzer were selling them direct to start with… but theres no info in the mazzer site either. Just waiting to see the review tbh - anyhow my blind shaker is about to arrive - so something else to play with 😂

Yeah the retailers I've spoken to in the UK said they had no plans to stock it. Looks like it will indeed be Mazzer direct. I can see the reviews being disappointing. There's no shortage of low priced 64mm flats and people who don't care about build quality, place of build and manufacturer heritage are going to say it's overpriced and find plenty of flaws I'm sure. It's an interesting price point because you can get capable single dosers for half the price or less, and it's obviously not going to compete with the top-end grinders like Kafateks etc. I think the only way this will sell well in the current market is if influencers really get behind it. Then again, I don't think Mazzer necessarily need it to sell massively well as the home market still isn't their bread and butter. I'm excited for it and have said before, will be buying it regardless but I don't expect it to be a flawless grinder.

depends really, the build should be better than that of the df and time mores, you would think, but its a saturated market there has been a zerno fs and a kafatec and weber eg1 all around £1500 on the old forum

cant quite agree there fully 🙃

issues such as shaft wobble etc and how bad the design is (on grinders with various floating spring design is) meaning burrs are out of parallel would mean grind size and particle distribution would vary from grinder to grinder with the same burrs.

the jury is out on how much that changes taste in the cup, even to old guys with normal human taste buds like you and me!!

they said they cant release until production exceeds demand at the moment.

dfk41 - if speed of grind was the only thing to worry about, then variable speed would be the best thing ever. But we all know it isn’t…. And Dave said there’s an optimal speed for a type of burr, and how the grinds exit the chute, and how the grinds are swept in the chamber, and how the beans are fed, etc.

Dave said a lot of things about that when talking about the Niche Duo. It’s buried here somewhere. I don’t quite have the energy or time to start digging it up.

In my espresso journey That’s s been lasting for over 35 years I have owned a few Mazzers.And Mazzer is the only brand I never had any issue with .Non.

Easycoffee That was the pint I was making…..they are a work horse of a grinder favoured in the non fancy, non third wave commercial cofee setting. Then came the ZM which had issues and was mega expensive…..now the Philos which has not really been around long enough for. issues if any, to be uncovered

Sure.But I don’t t expect any.The thing is rock solid and has very little retention.I use it mainly for my Bialetti in the morning.

They very much were used in the third wave shops. They’re still a fairly common sight in a lot of shops, especially outside of big cities.

I lived in London, mainly East London during some of the growth of London’s third wave in the late 00s to mid-10s and I’d guess 99.9% of them used Majors, Roburs or Super Jollys. You’d see the odd Ceado or other brand but up until the mid 10s when the Mythos started becoming commonplace along with the MK E65/E80 it was Mazzer all the way.

Here’s three prominent very much third wave shops, one of which doesn’t exist anymore but were pioneers of the scene- Workshop, Ozone and Shoreditch Grind. You can see the Mazzers.

Obviously Mazzer burrs are used in a number of other grinders and it was the original grinders they’re taken from that started their popularity.

I’ve never seen a ZM anywhere but I’ve not seen any shops single dosing espresso. I’m sure there are some that use single dose grinders and admittedly I don’t live in London anymore so things might’ve changed. I still just see Mythos/MK on-demand grinders mainly.

Ive had quite a few, all be it, cheap grinders so far, but Mazzer runs through all my favourites .

Zero, duo, prime and Key make great coffee. Smart grinder pro proved how good the zero was 😎

Hated the df83 with some passion!! Wavey spring and all!!

Ive currently 3 in daily use.

Duo dedicated to my wifes decaf and she says she had to have the best one.

That leaves the key and Philos for me, my grinder of choice is dependant on what mood i am in!! Philos is a minute quicker due to no rdt requirement. Key is also great now i accept rdt actually works.

(For the record i did like the T64 but it was just bad timing!!)

If i find the correct 6 numbers next saturday id love to try a flat max 2 but until then the Philos will have to do!!

Its close to fault free at least, thats a good start .

UK VAT rules: Above £135 the customer pays. Below that amount, the supplier pays directly to HMRC. A lot of companies in the EU can’t be bothered with that.
