delta76 Ha, too complicated matey! I was merely saying that the reason BB charge more for a Philos is that they offer the advantages of a dealer network and therefore have to make a profit. If you mark up at 50% you make a GP of roughly 33% which is the minimum amount a retailer needs to cover costs. In turn this does make buying from within the EU more difficult and complicated. This is why over the pond the customer base would rather on the whole buy non US based products through the dealer network than deal direct and get a discount. Pre Brexit I quite agree that it was easier for us in the UK but once again, Brexit is not to explain the price difference between Mazzer direct and BB in the UK!

dfk41 no I did not mean brexit explains the price difference. I was saying it just made buying directly from Mazzer more complicated.
I do think BB should have a better price for Philos, but well, if they think that’s fair and people buy from them :)

This is entirely speculation but BB have only just become a retailer for Mazzer so perhaps there isn’t the level of wholesale discount for such a new account with only one product.

I agree it seems quite high but BB are a great company and although I’ve not actually had anything I’ve bought from them go wrong, I’d certainly feel comfortable purchasing from them.

Having said that, Mazzer are also very good to deal with and have always been very helpful and quick to respond to my queries over the years.

I love that it’s still based on a family business after all these years. I also didn’t realise how much actual manufacturing they did of small components. I suppose in this day and age I wondered how much ‘made in’ actually meant ‘assembled in’ but looks like it’s still very much Made in Italy in all senses.

The new lid is very nicely machined.

And the new dosing cup just feels fantastic. Nice and heavy and very nice, deeply Knurled rings giving it a very good tactile feel. It even comes with a magnetic lid if you are ever going to use it as a shaker.

There is a nice new shiny burr alignment tool now for the philos . Ive seen a lot of complaints on places like Facebook and Reddit but I never actually saw the issue!!

Some new accessories coming out early next year for the Mazzer Philos .

There’s the burr alignment tool. There have been a few comments and complaints on the likes of Reddit and Facebook about the lack of alignment tool. The tool ensures both bears are fitted exactly Central. I do have to say in all honesty I personally did not have an issue without it, but it is a very nicely machined piece of kit and makes it impossible for any movement

The flanged cup with magnetic lid which is amazing if such a thing can be amazing, I guess us engineer types are easily pleased with a bit of nice machining and knurling!!

Also, the new lid is very nicely machined

Over the last couple of years I have had more than my fair share of correspondence directly with mazzer and was very lucky to blag my way to get this early pre-release version.

You may also be interested in something that has already been released on which I will start a new thread as soon as I get time.

Haha nice blag! The thing with Mazzer is that ‘available soon’ could mean anytime between now and next Christmas!

Will definitely order that lid and dosing cup though, I liked the look of the cup when the Mini G included it so it’s nice the Philos got one the same.

Looking forward to hearing how the Mini G is. I’d be very tempted if I only made espresso at home, looks like a great gbw option.

The philos cup weighs in at 326g with the lid and 273.4g as it is. Very over engineered but feels great in the hand

The original Philos cup is 130g 😎

As for waiting time, I think it is an industry thing, not just Mazzer!! I waited approx 8 months for the synchronika anniversary edition and then sold it!!
