Niche Duo arrives tomorrow. Should I fit my old SSP HU burrs, or sell them?

Adrianmsmith I am curious to what the markup is on this machine. 😅 I’m fairly sure the coffee won’t taste 17 times the quality of a shot from a Silvia. Surely diminishing returns became not returns around the, say 5,000 mark. 😨

I know it’s an old thread, but I recently installed the DLC Espresso burrs (as found in the DF83V) in my Niche Duo. They seem to be a better fit than my other third party burrs(SSP HU) and are a genuine improvement over the stock Mazzers.

More clarity? Yes! I it’s a less muddled brew. Certainly with the medium roast beans I’ve been using.

There is more retention, now, by about 0.1g, but I’m okay with that considering the improvement in taste. I tried the SSP HU a few weeks ago, and preferred the stock Mazzers, but that might be because the grinder was new. These DLC burrs seem to work well with the Duo.

I would leave the stock burrs in until you have at least tried them as you maybe surprised!

dfk41 You’re quite right! I ran them for about a month and they were very reasonable. Someone said the machine was built around those burrs and I can believe that. However, I had the DLC Espresso burrs to hand, thought I’d try them and they seem to produce a better brew. Good enough for me to ignore the extra retention.

I have a “thing” about machine A or machine B simply being Better.

Without understanding what better means to you its just different in some way. It could just be the colour on the TiN is nice so it muse be “better” 🤡

Or its heavier, so that has to be good….. to some people!!

Its a bit like HiFi; weight to some people is a measure of sound quality!!

Unfortunately with text comments its easy for a haha to come over as a dig. ☕

JimmyP I did try the Mazzers for a month. They’re very good, but prefer the DLC’s. I didn’t do an A/B comparison, and only tried the DLC’s out of curiosity (I had them lying around… Long story), but honestly, it’s a better brew.👍

Nope just a straight swap. No rubbery additions. I would say they were very similar in dimensions. The grinding is now much faster than with the Mazzers. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not, though. There is more retention on the DLC’s. (about 0.1-0.2g) That doesn’t bother me, but it might some.
