What's Happening with Mara X

I have been planning to buy a Mara X mostly due to Dave C’s review. I am moving to a new home on 1 August and for the first time in six years have room for a real espresso machine. I check prices regularly to see what’s happening and this week, many retailers have lowered prices from around 1200-1300€ to 900-1000€ for the standard chrome finish. Also the white (which I am hoping to buy) and the black models have started disappearing from retailer inventory.

I can’t find any news on it but it feels like it is either being discontinued and replaced. I can’t order sooner in case it ships accidentally (this has already happened with a piece of furniture) but it feels like there won’t be any, especially white.

Lelit availability appears to have been all over the place since they were acquired by Sage/Breville.

In the UK Bella Barista are usually pretty open about availability so might be worth asking them.

I don’t know where you are located, however in the USA it is readily available from Lelit directly and from multiple retailers. I noticed that a few of them seem to have lower than usual stock levels. Three guesses: lower stock at a few places is coincidence, shipping problems have affected many firms this past year and there could be a container cargo ship behind schedule or Lelit are preparing to introduce v3. You could perhaps place a deposit to hold your preferred cosmetic variation which would not ship until you completed your purchase.

I would try to stretch your budget a little more to a good dual boiler such as an ACS Minima or Lelit Bianca, you won’t regret it.

I missed some of the responses on this. There is no budget issue. However, only one out of every six drinks or so is with milk, less when guests are over as I live in southern Europe and people don’t usually take milk drinks after the morning. I could probably have bought a single boiler but there were none I really liked other than the Classika PID, and that doesn’t come in white. My wife’s only requirement was that a machine was white and looked good, which ruled out most single boilers.

I am happy so far with the coffee produced in the four days I’ve had the Mara.

Had mine for four years now and it hasn’t missed a beat. For me it’s perfect. Treat it well and you should enjoy the machine for a long time.

Spike6 did you think about the Rancilio Silvia Pro? It’s an excelent and reliable coffee machine.

profesor_historia As I implied above, I don’t need or want a double boiler. I rarely make milk drinks so there’s no point to a double boiler that I can see.

Spike6 - if that’s the case I would argue what’s the point of a heater exchanger machine. Why bring water to steam temperature if you don’t need to?

At least with a dual boiler you can keep the steam boiler off if you don’t use it.
