Hi all, I need some help balancing out the pros and cons with the above grinders! It people have experience with both that would be great or experience or thoughts on 64mm vs 83mm burrs too. I've only had a handful of grinders with the latest being a niche zero. Thanks 👍

@"dang2484"#p70062 Apart from the flat v conical and 63/4/5 v 83 mm argument, you may like to consider the burrs themselves. I have no experience with the DF range but I know a few people who have bought them then been remarkably quiet about them. The first thing others do, is swop the Chinese burrs out for SSP burrs then all seems well

@"dfk41"#p70063 Cheers for your thoughts. It was a point and being more expensive for 83mm, wouldn't be something if be doing straight away but could with the df64v. I think as long as they made good enough espresso to start with, I could factor in an upgrade down the line.

dang2484 Sadly a lot goes on behind the scenes of the coffee industry…which most people are completely unaware of. Part of the reason why I am not particularly enamoured by the current crop of “influencers”

For what it is worth, I had a df-83 Mark II. I did not like it at all. It was too quick, producing too many fines and it was not repeatable either. Other than that it was fine,😭

Basically that has put me off DF brand all together.

I also had that t64 front Bella barista the SSP burrs. This one I will recommend and the only issue I had with it was bad timing with the arrival of the mazzer philos!!

Only you can decide what price point you want to go in at or what price point you are prepared to go to.

I currently have the mazzer Philos, Niche Duo and Craig lyn hg1 prime. All of which I plan to keep.

If I really had to go down to one electric grinder I will keep the philos but not by any margin over the duo. Having the two make my life easy as I am always grinding my normal beans and also decaf at the same time.

Which one are you referring to? The T64, DF64v or DF83v? Could you post a link?

JimmyP I meant the 83v, just being lazy typing it all out! 😂 I agree I do see these around but think they’re the V1s mostly by the looks of it.

JimmyP There is a view held by some, me included that the term YouTube influencer is very disingenuous. These people often come across as ‘experts’ but all they are trying to do is promote themselves. Their channels are monetised meaning they make $ per click, hence the often outlandish click bait titles to their work. There is the odd coffee reviewer who of course does not fit into this category. Influencers are really just content creators yet the woffle they spout seems to get sucked up by many as if it were the sweetest lemonade.

I doubt Dave will comment. He works inside the coffee industry with manufacturers and designers. His YT channel is not monetised. He does not care how many people bother to view his content. Yes, he is my friend.

dfk41 I think that might be the tricky part of the coffee industry, making a good wage! Baristas don’t get paid much and it’s been taken over by big corporations and investment companies squeezing out the profit from the pockets of where it should be, the producers and workers!!

Adrianmsmith thanks Adrian, that’s helpful. I don’t feel the DF brand offers anything fantastic in build quality and innovation, but my dilemma is I have BB vouchers and unfortunately, they seem to be the best of the bunch in my price range they have!

dang2484 dang, you will not get a better grinder from BB than the solo T64 with SSP burrs……that is a statement rather than an opinion! You seem to be suggesting that you are being shoehorned into the DF range…..nope……I have a Solo, not that that means anything matey. Dave probably will not chip in but he tested this grinder, came up with a couple of alterations and the idea of putting in SSP burrs and all at a fantastic price…..

When mine came the grub screw holding the alternative adjustment collar was not tight and the collar was loose.

Bonus as such as i removed it and there were no marks where the grub screw should have been tightened.

I never fitted it as zero was within a chirp of zero. Saved it just in case i ever swapped out the burrs.

Looked better without it imho but beauty is in the eye of the beholder so im constantly reminded!!

BTW Suggested starting point is 15 ish if you are grinding for espresso.
