AlbertR I am far too lazy for that Albert! I could do the same as I have a de-humidifier with a dry clothes setting. I also have a couple of clothes drying racks. You do not actually need the fan. But, I pay a fixed amount of £160 pm to my energy supplier which has left me £1280 in credit. I am quite happy paying this amount. I also have a version 2 Smart meter with the display set to monthly usage. Very rarely do I exceed (even in the coldest months) that £160. I have been in my bungalow 5 ½ years and have fine tuned my heating. We only have 8 radiators, including 3 of them being in the open plan lounge/kitchen. Here is the hack. I switch off the three radiators in out open plan space. The bungalow was built in 1975 so does not have a chimney therefore no gas fire. We bought a flueless gas fire. All it needs is a gas supply piped to it. It looks like a log burner and is fully automatic for lighting. On full it has a 3.5 kw output although we rarely run it on a full setting. This means that being retired, we only have to heat one room to stay warm.
Hack 2 is we also have air conditioning in all rooms and as I am sure you will know, with air con you can have it set to cool or to heat. This means in the cooler months an hour or so before we go to bed (due to the orientation of the sun the back of the house is warm all day whilst the front where we sleep is colder) we can warm the room up in a very cost efficient manner. In the mornings the central heating comes on (on a thermostat from 7am till 11.45 pm @ 21 degrees) heating the house apart from the room we sit in. I knock that off around 9am…..so, by what some consider excessive, we have a pretty good heating system that also can cool in case we get some nice weather, run in an efficient manner providing whatever levels of coolness/heat we desire. My wife is disabled so again, that is a primary consideration!
The heat pump tumble dryer is very economical to use so I do not give a seconds thought as to chucking the washing in, especially if I cannot be arsed to go outside for any reason!
