DavecUK Donāt get taken in by all the hype around the Philos.
Gotta be honest, I value your opinion @DavecUK and youāre clearly exponentially more knowledgeable than 99% people in coffee but aside from agreeing itās an expensive grinder, I do think youāve been a bit unfair on the Philos.
Of course youāre more than entitled to your opinion, as we all are, but to write off a genuinely great grinder as āhypeā without spending some decent time with it hasnāt exactly given it a chance.
Itās the first āsemi consumerā electric grinder from one of the oldest grinder manufacturers in the world, the first āproperā single doser theyāve made (letās ignore the ZM) and most importantly has an exceptional burr set. And regardless of what anyone thinks of the grinders, we all know Mazzer make some of the best burrs ever to have been manufactured. Itās the reason theyāre in an enormous number of grinders of all types.
I canāt overstate the quality of the Philos 200D burr and perhaps intentionally Mazzer have designed this burr to work best in the Philos. To write off the grinder means you miss out on a fantastic burr.
Iām not trying to be harsh, I just think by not spending some proper time with the Philos, youāre missing out on a good grinder. If you spend a month with it and still think itās āmehā and āhypeā then fair enough but to write it off based on a few goes at an expo hasnāt really done it justice.
I have zero reason to be loyal to it. If I thought it was sh*t Iād have sold it and bought something else, Iām not going to just keep Ā£900 worth of gear for no reason. I donāt even love how it looks and itās massive, but itās so good I canāt see replacing it.
Iām just speaking up because I know people may skip over trying one just because youāve said itās āmehā and I think they might miss out.
