simonc Really struggling to dial this in. Keep getting 20g in, 40 out in 23-25 seconds. First drop at 9-10 seconds.
Just gone 4 notches finer and got a gusher which didn’t go above 6 bar and was 60g in 21 seconds. What happened there? Did I get channeling as too fine? Very careful wdt so thought it was prepped ok.
I always find grinding finer resulting in channelling, especially when I load 20-21g on a triple basket. The trouble is even 22-23g, after tamping, fills the basket only 60% giving too much head space. This coupled with the surface area of the finely ground coffee poses a challenge. More often, I can see craters on the spent puck only on the triple basket, which isn’t the case on a double basket.
If am desperate for a larger espresso, I grind a couple of notches coarser. Otherwise, I dose 18g on a double basket, which is good.
