@DavecUK I tried doing as you suggested, not running water through for first shot and only brushing out the PF between shots rather than washing it but to no avail, I still got a 10 second longer shot time for the same weight of output, 47 rather than 37 seconds.
I don’t understand what might be happening in that the weight of beans is the same and, insofar as I’m using a levelling tool, the tamp pressure is the same. The naked PF doesn’t show any evidence of channelling which might have been a reason for the first shot running faster had that been the case. The only other thing I can think of is that the holes on the basket get partially blocked so the second shot runs more slowly - which is why I was washing the basket between shots - but holding it up to the light there don’t appear to be any blockages.

Alexvs I haven’t tried tamping as well, though I guess I’d need to tamp the first, faster shot rather than the second. I gave up tamping when I found, and read, that it’s consistency of process that really matters and I found a well adjusted leveller seems to tamp sufficiently.
