Fair play to Cworks and Kev, very quick reply to my email informing them…..
Good morning Adrian,
I’m very sorry to hear this. Finding a stone or other object such as part of a tile in your beans for the first time is always a shock, as I know from the first time it happened to me.
Coffee beans are an agricultural product. When they come over from origin, they do sometimes contain objects, usually stones, small pieces of volcanic rock, fruit stones, or small chunks of raised patio material. This is the most likely with natural-processed coffee beans; it’s less common with washed-processed beans, as that process involves the beans being washed in water, which would usually separate any other objects.
Several steps are taken to check and remove these objects from the green beans before roasting, including sieves, a destoner machine, magnets, and manual inspections of the raw and roasted beans. Unfortunately, while these steps do lead to the removal of nearly all objects, the occasional object will slip through, most often small objects similar in size and weight to coffee beans.
I’m very glad to hear that the object didn’t cause damage to your grinder ( well spotted!). Most machines do have an internal failsafe to deal with this, either a slipper clutch or an inexpensive nylon gear left as the weakest link as it’s cheap & simple to replace. If it had have caused damage to your machine, and if the supplier or manufacturer refused to take responsibility, we would have resolved it for you. We’d never leave our customers without a means to brew our coffee! :-).
I’ve put a …… (Deleted as theres a code!!)
Apologies once again, and thanks for letting us know!
Thanks :-)
