Osmio Zero or something else

My Osmio Zero, which we’ve had for eight years, appears to be knackered. The replace water light constantly comes on as it’s not automatically filtering. I’ve been getting around this by lifting the jug lid, but I often have to do this repeatedly before it filters properly. Suggestions from Osmio of descaling and citric acid haven’t worked. I can potentially send it to them for a service which I did 4 years ago when it was leaking, but I’m wondering if I should buy a new one.

The Osmio has been great, especially with two kids under three with the baby bottle warm water setting.

As I’m in France, and not planning on driving a car out from the UK for a while, I need to see if they’ll post it here; however, it is an expensive machine, so I’m wondering if anything has changed in 8 years and if I should be considering something else?

nopapercup I faced the same quandary a couple of years ago. I ended up buying a box from Osmio and sending it back. After 2 weeks ‘testing’ it was returned with no fault found.I connected it up and immediately it spewed its contents onto the bench. The unit was 3 years old. I aksed for a discount against a new unit and they laughed, do I walked.

Research took me to a company called Waterdrop.I bought their K19 model which is reasonably priced. If you keep it simple as I did, you put tap water in with a tds of 125 and it filetsr it and you get water out with a tds of 12. But, they only have a single filter. I was then shown the A1 model

This was dearer, approximately the same price as an Osmio. It has two filters and is better at filtering micro plastics and the like. I will let @DavecUK explain the technical side of why he thinks it superior. It has an oled display and my tds is generally around 6. This is a global company who use dynamic pricing, which means the price goes up and down. If you look at the Camelizer screenshot the current price seems good

dfk41 Thanks Dave. How does the A1 compare to the Osmio for you? The price seems similar but the filters do seem to be more expensive.

MediumRoastSteam That is the cheaper K19 which neither Dave or I now own. I tend to follow his advice without questioning it too much. We both have the A1 that I have already linked to. I am not sure if Dave has commented on his new one but as far as i know it is very different and we are both happy. The new one has a compressor allowing it to give you both chilled and hot water which for a house that likes cold water is great, but it is noisy when cooling

Another rabbit hole entered. Anyone know anything about the Osmio 3.0 and what hydrogen is supposed to be adding to our lives?

Besides you @dfk41 who had a bad customer experience, why have others moved away from Osmio?

I must say, I’ve always found their customer service to be great.

nopapercup To be clear, their customer service was fine, even though they could nor find the fault in 2 weeks yet it was there as soon as I put it back on the shelf. @Jony who I sold it to has confirmed the leak is still there. My bad experience was with the owner who thinks he is far more important than he and his product actually are

For everyday use how does the Waterdrop A1 compare to the Osmio? They’re similarly priced but the Watersrop filters appear to be more expensive.

nopapercup @DavecUK needs to chip in here. The A1 has 2 filters cartridges. One lasts 6 months the other 12. I think the annual one also filters out microplastics that the K19 does not. It is more intuitive than the Osmio having a colour screen and interactive menu system. They both offer hot water. The Waterdrop chilled as well. The TDS is permanently displayed. The water tank is 3 litres. 3 litres generates 1 litre of concentrated waste which is partitioned off from the main supply. It is noisy but you can turn it off at night if you wish. Having had all 3 I would suggest the A1 is a little ahead of the Osmio. Waterdrop are a global company. If you email customer services it tends to be the next day that they reply. They are very keen to help. I think when you are paying this sort of price you really expect decent service. Waterdrop follow dynamic pricing so the price of the unit fluctuates. The filters see to be the same price all year. They are slightly dearer though I found some on Ebay that saved a few quid (I like to have the next filter in stock rather than looking for it when I need it). The A1 filters the water very quickly.

I would buy Osmio again if needs be. I needed to make a point, even if only to myself. I was quite happy with the K19 till DAve convinced me otherwise…..shows how little I know!
