i think i could probably stretch to 1k if it was the right item. im set on the lelit elizabeth and have bookmarked daves sway document about it. i guess my fear is disappointment that my absolute frustration with the barista express will spill over into something new and expensive in the pursuit of a repeatable cup of coffee due to a whole new set of variables. honestly, today i had the grinder set to 3, first pull choked, 2nd choked, 3rd drizzle. im starting to think this machine is either broken or laughing at me.

IIIMETATRONIII Eureka do a 65mm version of the Mignon which in smaller 55mm size has been around for years. They also do this, a 75mm semi commercial

The burrs are very similar to the ones used in the Mythos. I am not sure when BB are expecting them but I would be surprised if they would not offer one with the 350 gm hopper

IIIMETATRONIII I think they are out there but perhaps BB have not yet stock. I know these both link to grind by weight but for me that is no biggie if they do not have that function

I would pick the Mignon Silenzio as the best value but you may have different selection criteria.

As for the grinder, all the others recommending Niche Zero are not listening. If you are in for light-medium roasts Niche Zero is not ideal. Maybe not even the Duo. and I say this as an ex Zero owner and current Duo owner. As opposed, Lagom Casa 65’s burrs you mentioned are made for lighter roasts and clarity. And that will probably be my next grinder. I’ve used it while visiting my sister and it’s pretty cool. No lid, no need to press a button to stop the grind, amazing design., no clumps. Haven’t used it for espresso though. And you could buy few small jars and pre-weigh few doses for your wife.

oddbean Our esteemed and learned resident brewed coffee expert @MWJB prefers lighter roasts and exclusively uses a Zero. You mention other grinders but what you really mean is the burrs contained in those grinders…

And I’m not talking about other grinders, I’m talking only about Lagom Casa grinder AND it’s 65mm burrs.

And I have personally used a eureka mignon specialita that was staling constantly with lighter roasts as it couldn’t grind fine enough. My Duo can’t grind light roasts fine enough either, though not staling.

dfk41 why hack 800£ machine with 200£ burrs when you can get something that works well together for half the price?

niche support has been very poor to me personally. I told them about my issue with roasting light roasts and kept pretending it’s normal and I should grind even bellow the 0 mark.

David, you are correct. I put SSP HU and SSP LS Cv2 in my Duo and they worked perfectly. If I wasn’t moving to 80mm I’d keep my Duo exactly as is. A truly great grinder.

oddbean Why can you not grind below the zero mark (unless it is calibrated that way)? Have you tried to get the burrs to chirp then retard slightly and try and see if it can handle your needs. The dial on a grinder is normally a point of reference…..no more and no less. It may well be that you are perfectly right of course but then you at least would have saved the expense of a loss on selling your Duo

BrendaninBrooklyn I think this is going to delve into the 65 v 83 v 80 mm argument! I was just suggesting to @oddbean that there might be alternate solutions…..that said he may well have tried a Lagom and desire one

No arguments from me. If I had a Duo (as I still do) and was not going to migrate to 80mm (or larger for those who require very large burrs) I would do what I did – keep my Duo and add 83mm burrs that performed as needed. Much cheaper than taking the loss on a Duo plus purchasing something new (and personally unknown)

The Casa seems a very nice grinder for its’ price; it is however expressly marketed for light duty. 90 second bursts maximum then a rest period. This would probably not work for me.

Re: 64, 65, 83, 80 – each has a role to play – and 75 too as in your Mythos ;-)

BrendaninBrooklyn You can never have too many grinders! I was trying to discover if @oddbean had explored all the avenues open to him. I suspect that he has not found the Niche experience pleasurable so there is no point in me trying to persuade him otherwise. He seemed to be not wanting to waste bundles of money so my thought was since the Do can grind green beans then a change of burrs might be the easiest way forward

I completely agree. I think a burr change such as I did would resolve the issue and frankly be a much better long term solution. Well, the OP shall do as he pleases and good luck to him.

My wife and Malthus agree that grinder population control is now necessary. Thus no https://c64.coffee in my (near) future and both my Duo and a Fellow Ode with SSP LS Cv2 burrs will be emigrating ;-)
