Hey folks - new Lelit Elizabeth owner here. Experiencing inconsistent results and noticed a big pressure spike on the first shot after standing for a while / the first shot of the day. That's one heck of a spikey spike! My 'liz goes up to 9-9.5 on the first then back down to 8.5 on subsequent shots. I did clean/lube the OPV but it only sorted it in the short term. I'm not getting much difference in my shots fortunately but I'm assuming yours are vastly different with that pressure change!

Excuse my very low level of knowledge, but this is not normal, right? Am I explaining it the right way for my retailer / Lelit to understand? Thanks Del - yes, happens with blind basket, stays at **12 bar for first shot** (seems to just stay there, not sure how long I should run it?), subsequent shots with blind basket go to **9 bar**.

It is the issue you suspect it is. I have the same problem, sadly took me almost a year to notice otherwise I would just have returned the machine for a refund. Lelit have acknowledged the problem to myself and advised I need a new overpressure valve. Am yet to get a response from Bella Barrista re supplying that part under warranty, but hopefully it gets sorted soon. The issue has been around long enough - surprised they are still selling machines with the dodgy part

I may well write to them tomorrow. I just need to find a particular image of a faulty expansion valve someone had disassembled at my request and uploaded to the forum.

Ando - thank you so much. I am very tempted to return for a refund, I am super disappointed that my most expensive purchase ever is defective!

I guess the question is also (before I go down the refund route) - is this fixable? It has shaken my confidence in the quality of the machine though. So sad to discover this!!

Yes, that’s what I asked Martin @ BB to do. However, he refused. He said he has no knowledge of anyone else with this issue and refused to accept it based on @DavecUK comments on this forum. Unless LELIT issues a notice on this issue, he is only willing to investigate if i send the machine back.

europa - Yeah. As Dave points out, maybe it might take some time for the information to filter through. It doesn’t stop you from using the machine, so you can still drink coffee :-). If Dave has spoken to the manufacturer, I hope it will be addressed soon. Give it a few days and try again, as frustrating it might be.

And when you hear back from Lelit, hopefully they will by then inform the retailer and things will just work out smoothly from that time onwards.

As I believe I have said a number of times…Lelit will have a fix for the issue….which has now been published to all retailers. I personally don’t see it as a big deal to replace yourself…however, I can’t blame any retailers who want the machine back to do the fix themselves.

This thread has bought to mind one issue with forums and openness of information….so perhaps it’s best to discuss it, I made a post in the Coffee lounge area to not clutter up this thread… it is unlocked

Indeed, i’m not in a hurry. LELIT has just updated the ticket to say they are consulting internally, so i will wait. :-)

Any updates on this issue, anyone? I’ve heard nothing from LELIT since the 4th (when they replied to acknowledge my ticket).

As an aside, the other day i adjusted my OPV to 9.5 bar - I had previously adjusted it to 10 bar a couple of months ago - and now it only spikes to 10 bar with the blind basket (as opposed to 12 bar previously). Makes me think it doesn’t stay at the pressure i set it to for long. Is it possible that it drifts upwards with time?

I’ve just had my machine back from retailer, they are claiming that the pressure spike is a result of having a vibe rather than a rotary pump.

The proposed solution is to pull a shot with a blank filter until the pressure is correct (about 8.5-9 bars) and then try to pull a shot before it creeps up again.

My knowledge is purely second hand from reading forums so I’m not really in a position to question the retailer.

I’d be interested to hear if anyone has any updates on issue?

Whether you have the expansion valve problem or not, I don’t know. What I do know, is that statement about the vibe pump is incorrect.

You need to describe the problem a little more and perhaps make a video. Welcome to the forum….

For me, the machine reads 12 bar against a blank filter.

If I run the pump against the blank filter, the “maximum” pressure will gradually reduce down to about 8.5-9 bar.

If pulled immediately, the next shot will be in 8.5-9 bar range. However, leaving the machine allows the pressure to creep up eventually back to 12 bar.

Coffeefiend Sounds like you have the issue and they should get the revised Lelit part and either fit it to your machine, or send it to you to fit yourself.

just use PTFE tape when replacing, probably 7-9 wraps in the correct direction. if they have used thread lock, clean it off first.
