drdre89 It looks like a nice unit you bought. Should be similar to the Lelit in many ways. Let us know what you think when you put it through its paces. My Elizabeth has been rock solid. I think you had that OPV problem if memory serves.

dndrich - also @drdre89 I’ll be very interested to know how the Rancilio’s pre-Infusion works. There was a video demonstrating it but there wasn’t much shown.

MediumRoastSteam The Lelit pre-infusion is really nice. Using the steam boiler to pressurize up to around 2-3 bar is terrific.

They say it wets the puck with “ambient” pressure (whatever that means?) for up to 6 seconds … then it “slowly” ramps up to 9 bars of pressure. Will see how it goes

drdre89 They open the solenoid to the brew boiler which will be a little above brew temp and a little hot water comes out because the boiler is just above 100C.

Whatever they decide to call… “soft” infusion if the term they want to coin. Would be interesting to know how it works and how effective “ambient” pressure works if there’s no pump run beforehand.

Looking forward to seeing Silvia Pro X thread when the machine arrives. :-)

MediumRoastSteam It dribbles water out of the group. If you want to see what it does…next time I am round I will switch my hot machine off and open the group lever…what comes out is broadly what’s happening…bigger boiler larger amount, small boiler, smaller amount….Not a huge amount comes out….sort of just slightly dribbles out under no pressure…

Well, it wets the puck slightly I guess?….Better is a short pump run (configurable), then a pump pause (bloom phase, also configurable), with vent solenoid remaining closed, then on to the normal pump run. Perhaps it does that. If they had sent a machine to me, that’s what I would have recommended.

DavecUK Seems like a missed opportunity. The feature set of the Silvia Pro X is so similar to the Elizabeth, I would have thought they’d try to match the Elizabeth’s preinfusion performance, especially since it’s $200 pricier. It does have a bigger steam boiler though, which is something I guess.

I’m sure it is, Rancilio is very well regarded. I’m personally a big fan of a small, quick dual boiler, saturated group head sub $2000 machine, I wish more companies would compete in this space.

I think also the way it “slowly” ramps up to 9 bars after the soft infusion is a cool unique feature. They do make a point of that.

The OPV also comes out of the factory stock at just over 9 bars of pressure blind shot. Without having to open the machine and fiddle around with it. I wish more companies would do this.
