Coffeetimepals:
I have had my Lelit Elizabeth for 2 weeks now and have been delighted. I received my naked ECM portafilter yesterday in the mail, and got to use it today. OMG! The shots were incredible to watch, and they were perfect. I used the stock Elizabeth basket, which I actually think is terrific, and filled with 16 gm per usual. I use a Niche grinder, and want my routine to be simple and repeatable. I am delighted to report that for the first two attempts, coffee for the wife and then me, they were perfect. I am using 6 seconds of pre-infusion, and I suspect that helps smooth out any channeling. I ground the coffee into the Niche cup, inverted the portafilter and flipped it over per usual, gave a few shakes and removed the dosing cup. Then a few leveling taps with the palm and then on the bench for a couple of taps, and a consistent tamp with my nice heavy flat tamper, and into the group.
It was so fun to watch the coffee come out slowly and evenly at first, gather in the middle, and produce a beautiful even flow through the basket into the cup. I went around 35 seconds for the 1:2 recipe. The coffee was delicious. I am so pleased that this simple routine is likely to produce repeatable shots without a whole bunch of other prep needed beyond a simple routine and a great grinder. So pleased. This machine is all I hoped it would be. So is the Niche.
