Doram It seems like the revised steam boost might cause the overheating after a shot to last longer than the 15 (ish) minutes that it is now. I typically ride that wave in the mornings, make a drink, make another 20 minutes later, my wife might steam some milk too for her chai tea latte. This doesn’t seem to improve that workflow, unless I sacrifice steam power in the new cafe plus mode, where there is no steam boost.
Lelit Mara X V1 and V2 – the differences
EfrainPR Boost stops, but the group has heated up beyond the set point and needs to cool, hence the overheating…on my V1 that means about 15 minutes. The steam boiler pressure idles around 0.6 bar, this results in a group temp of around 91 +/- .5C in the medium temp setting, based on a group head thermometer I have installed. When I pull a shot, the temp rises up to 92.5 +/- 1C for the duration of the shot, and cools down to 89/90 for the first minute after. If I don’t pull another shot, the group temp will climb to 93 in 3 ½ - 4 minutes, while the steam pressure holds around 1.5 bar. When the steam pressure starts to drop after the heater stops, the group temp will have reached 95-96c before falling back down to 91 +/- .5 C in 15 minutes.
Hi Everyone - I have been trying to get to the bottom of how to identify if a MaraX gicar is the right one for V2 software. I have been talking to Bella Barista about getting hold of one to fit in my V1 MaraX. They have a recently manufactured gicar I can buy, March 2022 date on it and it has V1.90 printed on it.
Can anyone who has a MaraX V2 gicar box either take a picture of it for me or let me know what is printed on the bottom of the label on it please?
Thanks
The V2 GICAR box I have has a January 2022 date with V 1.09 printed on it.
Ahh ok thank you
This is mine, sent to me about 1 month ago. I added the red arrow as probably that’s what you should be looking for.
Very helpful Dave, thank you. Martin @ BB sent me an email saying the one he has in stock is V1.9 but I suspect it might be a typo. I’ll ring him tomorrow and check. If it’s 1.09 then I’ll get it ordered.
itguy Very helpful Dave, thank you. Martin @ BB sent me an email saying the one he has in stock is V1.9 but I suspect it might be a typo.
Most likely he just disregarded the leading zero.
Yes expect so. Really keen to try out this new firmware and see how it performs as I’ve had niggly issues with mine since new really. I think some of it is my workflow / pattern though.
I think Lelit have changed their numbering sequence!
I have just had a look at the photo of the Mara X Gicar on BB spares and it is labelled as
PL62MARAX 1.23 20/04/2020
So logically the version 1.09 as shown above is older?
I would love to get hold of the new version as it would solve my concerns with the MaraX , stop me from selling it and buying an ECM Classika PID! Steam required here once in a blue moon - multiple coffees (black) required quite often!
Yes, I realise that it just seems an odd sequence - even the machine designation has changed as well.
Perhaps they start off with a new version 1.xx every year, who knows!
Would have been sensible to call the new one Version 2.xx maybe?
I did ask Martin about the photo on the website and he said it’s just an old stock photo of the unit and not representative of what they actually have in stock.
One other difference is the fact that the new one says ‘MaraXcaffeplus’ rather than just ‘PL62MaraX’. I wonder if the caffeplus bit refers to the new mode programming etc, so this is essentially a new set of version control for the new programming, hence 1.09.
When I speak to Martin later I’m sure I’ll get to the bottom of what they actually have. I suspect it’s a MaraXCaffePlus 1.09 - but we’ll see.
I am actually now much more convinced of what I just wrote - take a look at the two versions listed here and the photos (for PL62X) - https://www.lamacchinadelcaffe.com/en/schede-display-rele-termopid-cablaggi-lelit.html
woodbar I think Lelit have changed their numbering sequence
I think you misunderstood the point Dave made.
on his photo, and at the link you sent above in the “v2 box”, the model is MARAXCAFFEPLUS. The major version is 1, the minor version is 09.
For the old firmware box, the model is PL62MARAX, the major version number is 1, the minor version is 23.
It makes sense to me that, for a new product (as far as Gicar is concerned) the version starts from 1 again.
And, as I typed all of this, I just realised itguy made the same point above 🤦♂️. Should’ve had my coffee first! 🤣
Well hopefully BB will confirm this morning that they have a ‘caffeplus’ version in stock and I can nip down last thing today to grab it. Looking forward to seeing what improvements they’ve made.
- Edited
Cafeplus is the name which they gave to the revised software I suggested to them last year. It’s the very latest software.
Brilliant. I’m going to BB later so can have eyes on the correct unit.
MediumRoastSteam I think you misunderstood the point Dave made.
Well, no, I fully understood.
Having spent years of my commercial life issuing technical bulletins and dealing with modified part numbers and firmware upgrades etc. etc. it just struck me as a totally illogical way of doing things. I can see that V1.09 is later from the date and V1.23 is the “old” version also from the date on that one.
Perhaps I should go back to Android V4 instead of the V10 I have on my phone - it might be newer?
Anyway, let’s hope @“itguy” had a successful visit to BB and it is now fitted and being tested?
