@"RobertRo101"#p9667 I've been using the V3 for almost a year now…low flow works well. Especially good if you don't want to move the paddle..It was one of my favourite new things on Bianca. For the upgrade you would need a new LCC, some wiring and the additional solenoid with a slight plumbing change.

The Bianca Review is a version 1, so quite old now. I may well update it…essentially the machine is unchanged except for the addition of the new features. I may have a few extra features the production version doesn't have, and my solenoid is slightly different (they are sending me a replacement, if I get any problems with mine)… I was originally sent it to try it and see if there were any problems…which there were not…it wall worked very well. I don't think I have a manual, but I will download the production manual as my version a year ago has something else I won't mention, until I find out if it was in the production version. I suspect my software might not be exactly the same version, but again until you guys by one and if the software version is on the back of the LCC I won't know…plus mine could still have been a reflashed LCC. I have to be very careful when commenting on pre production stuff so early in the chain. Really like the version 3 though, as compared to the version 1, lots of features were new….and I do need to update my version 1 to a version 2.

This is why, despite my recent challenges, I really love the Bianca (and Lelit). I have been toying with updating to LCC 2. I may hang fire and update to LCC v3 though, with my new found boldness for tinkering with the machine 😉

The Low flow used in conjunction with PI seems to be a good combination. Dave, have you been using just the low flow or do you always use the PI with it ?

Really great feature. It basically mirrors the profile I use 99% of the time so it’s handy to be able to automate it. It’s also really awesome to see Lelit iterating on what is already a fantastic machine. It’s impressive how quickly the group head pressure changes when the low flow kicks in.

Its a good option, not sure id rip my machine apart for it, but its a good out the box incentive to buy the v3 over a competitor

there will hopefully be some other upgrades that the new LCC bring that are worthwhile.

And you meant the Bianca’s PID should (and could) be tuned to make sure the two first shots work better? Agree that 10s is unrealistic for home user. even for catering small events no one could clean, grind, tamp in 10s.

Exactly, this is the problem with manufacturers testing and influencer testing…they don’t test and tune for real world use. This means an influencer (who doesn’t test correctly, and they mostly don’t) may well “influence” a manufacturer to make changes that are inferior, all because of marketing!

In real world use, I guess it’s possible if you use a grinder with a doser (which we don’t do at home really) and are very fast knocking out the portafitler, not cleaning anything properly, clacking the doser (not weighing the dose), very quick tamp , lock load and shoot…even then…10s…nah!

Which begs the question….why are they testing it and lets hope the manufacturer doesn’t make changes to “pass” the test?

The only way to fill the brew boiler is by activating the brew swich on any pump machine. The brew boiler is technically always full, and it does not have a level probe.

If you hear the pump activating after a shot (or during a shot in certain machines), it is filling up the service/steam boiler.

The shots timing are following the WBC rules, so it’s seems are “competition rules” definitely not real world as Dave mentioned.

10s are possible in a competition where you prepare all the 3 or 4 portafilters before.

That in itself is very abstract. In my world, I only care about the first shot produced, as I hardly ever have a subsequent shot. I also don’t keep the machine on waiting for the next shot. So temperature stability in that sense, for me at least, is totally irrelevant at this point in time.

Watched a few competition. They don’t prepare portafilter that long before pulling. And the machines are multiple group ones anyway. As they only need to make 4 espressos per “round” they are not doing everything within 10s.

I assume that the test is something machines have to pass in order to be a sponsor. It makes senses for commercial machines but is quite unrealistic for a home machine.

@DavecUK so for bianca it would make sense to set the pid higher and/or to increase the temp offset? It will fix the first two tests but will likely overshoot the temp of 10s idle tests which do not really matter anyway?

It would depend, in my post earlier I gave lots of considerations…e.g. how does it perform at other temps, a PID has proportional, derivative parameters, perhaps they need changing.. The only thing that is certain, current temperature testing (use by most if not all) is not fit for purpose, when considering the prosumer user….something I have been saying for almost 20 years.

Setting up the home machine is a best compromise….which is what I try to do. Current methods by others are a long long way from that.

Hmm, now i think I have an idea why Linea Mini performed so well in the similar test (they did not do the wbc protocol at the time). As it has a very small boiler (170ml), the heating element is basically always on and heating water immediate as it fills the boiler. Not saying LM does not have great design to keep the temp stable, but that does have an advantage.

i think for its price point the bianca offers great quality, my evo was more temp stable, how that translates in cup, i have no idea, but from visual indications from the machines the bianca swings more on display, but this is boiler temp and also after i have pulled 80g of water out for a turbo, normal 40g shots it doesn’t alter.

you can set the display to give average or actual boiler temp readings,

add to that when you pull the shot it times, ive turned my display time down as it would show shot time for say 20s, thats not needed, then after that goes it will show boiler temp, and say the boiler has dropped to 93 it will flash as its quickly warming it back up.

that is where and why you need a Scace II (wink wink). set pid to, say 93, and pull a long shot (60s for example), you then can see how temp fluctuates
