For this machine it's one of the first made, and I am doing an Engineering review on it for Antonio (the creator) as a favour, so I can't really comment at this stage. But I can post photos….and say that the Paddle levers on this are very basic beta ones….so that area is still in the design melting pot.

I love the look of these sorts of lever machines, but they really need to at least try to make them a bit more compact in design. They're either lacking in that area of expertise or they don't care… A more compact design would look like a much better centre piece in a kitchen (and take less space in a commercial setting), rather than protruding till the near edge. The size distracts from the elegance of it.

@"tompoland"#p10007 In that case they should have either decreased tank sizes and utilised quicker water heating technology (I'm sure there's loads of options from other industry's) or started with a more wide design but I guess that would've cost too much R&D time. One way to think of it is that they won't lose customers if its small, but they will lose customers if its too big. It does look pretty nice though.

Hey folks, I’m new to the forum and new owner of Nurri Leva. Had it for a month or so and have just noticed when playing with PID that t3 seems to run 2 degrees below what ever I have set. i.e. I set 91 - boiler runs at 89. Have any fellow Nurri owners experienced this? Cheers!

Hello JasonG and welcome to the forum. The T3 on the pid refers to the grouphead temperature setting. T1 is the brew boiler while T2 is the steam boiler.

My own nurri’s T3 tends to fall short by about 1 degree. What that means is that if I set 90 degrees for T3, what T3 achieves is usually 89 degrees. What I do is that if I want to achieve 90, I set 91 for T3. This issue for my machine seems to be limited to only T3 - the brew and steam boilers arrive at the set temperatures as programmed. Hence the power of the heaters doesn’t appear to be the cause but it seems more likely to my unlearnee understanding to be so ekind of programming thing.

Is that what you mare referring to?

I have brought up the issue to my dealer and Antonio, and that is one of the things he is addressing with the upcoming software patch to the pid that he has apparently announced on Facebook that is imminent (see tompoland’s post above at post #423)

What do you mean by t3?

I presume you have set the boiler to 89 and group head to 91?

chlorox I think so. Sorry to be vague but I haven’t used the Nurri for 3 days but last time I seem to remember that t3 was not going above 92 (I have it set to 93). I’ll be using it again Monday so will check then.

Update two days later: I may have misread and misreported above. This morning T3 was still set to 93c but did not go above 91 when warmed up. I reset T3 to 95 and now it heats up to 93c.

The software patch that is coming should hopefully resolve that issue for those machines that have it. I have communicated with a couple of other owners of the machine whose pid do not experience this issue so it is by no means universal.

I had a similar issue with the machine I had to evaluate. Unfortunately with no access to PID settings, I also had to set the group temperature about 1 degree higher than I wanted.

I did feed this back to Antonio.

DavecUK They could have fixed the temp undershoot based on your technical review/input before production. In any case, good they are releasing a software patch to enable the PID!

DavecUK One thing, which puzzled me was why the PID parameters were not enabled by default. It would have saved the hassle of installing the patch especially by those who aren’t technically inclined.

It’s great folks have more choices in the lever segment.

I sort of get it. Have read many stories of less-technical people get into a ‘piddle’ inadvertently changing them when simply trying to change temperature. But agree, they need to be accessible.

I think it ties in completely with the entire design concept of the vostok or vesuvius as opposed to that for the nurri. The former cater and appeal more to people who like to tinker and fiddle and do their own maintenance. The latter is targeted at people who want to achieve the same in cup results but who want the user experience to be a more curated one that is maximised on pleasing their senses - kind of like the difference between the people who preferred the apple personal computers and those who preferred IBM and the Microsoft os computers from an earlier age. So nurri probably emphasised more on ease of use to the point where it hardly needs to be explained to the user and so they limited the interface on what the user could choose to do

Tompoland: I know the Nurri bre head heats up in about 15 minutes, but how long does it take for the cups on the cup rack to warm up?

Was there anything counterintuitive about assembling it that wasn’t well covered in the set of instructions?

I’m intrigued. Why would this be beneficial? Energy should be used to heat the water in the boilers, or the group, not the cups in the cup warmer. If manufacturers wanted the cups to be warm as a feature, then they would not bother insulating the boilers. Heating the cups is only a by-product of the heat unfortunately being “wasted”.

A better way of warming up cups quickly and more efficiently is by pouring a bit of hot water (from a kettle) and swirling it around.

I don’t have the Nurri or the Evo, but I don’t think the cup will be warm enough or hot, at all, in 15 minutes on the cup tray.

I dont rely on the machine tray to wam my cups - I fill a cup with hot water from the machine just before using it to warm it up. I saw that the boiler is insulated and so I don’t think the tray wil get sufficiently warm enough like the way my old izzo got so warm that it heated up a dozen cups and saucers without difficulty. But this is good for the nurri because it means there is a minimum of wasted heat and thus much less wasted electricity.

In any event even the warmest machine tray may not be warm enough by Neopolitan standards. I recall watching a video that showed cups being left in a hot water bath in a naples espresso bar before they were used - which meant that the cups may have been as hot or hotter than the extracted coffee!

The dealer installed it for me at my kitchen I didn’t really bother to read rhe manual much at all but got some basic directions from the dealer and I was off using it. For me, that was part of the appeal - I could leave all the technical installation stuff to the dealer

cyclezib unpacking and setting up for first pour was a doddle. Really, other than putting the portafilter in and screwing on the lever handle, it was pretty much plug n play. The manual is adequate to the point of being helpful but not comprehensive by any means.

Re cups, they seem ready to use when the boiler is up to temp.

Any negative with taking it from the hot water tap rather than a kettle? I was thinking when the Nurri arrives that would be my goto way to keep the water cycling through in the steam boiler.

I’m not sure the boilers are insulated, but a current owner can confirm I guess.
